When I first got my valk, bout 8 years ago, I gave a shot at max speed, got myself up to 125 mph, was still accelerating when I feared that if cop caught me, he'd cut up my licence.

A few years later, tried again and could only get to 115 mph, wot.
Tried again other day, same, 115 mph.

So I'm wondering, could it be that my throttle cable has stretched,
which would prevent me from getting all it has?

Or, is there another more likely reason for this lower max speed?

What type of fuel are you using? Ethanol gas could be causing this, if you used pure gas on the first run. You should be able to see if the throttle itself is actually going all the way to the stop by twisting the grip in the driveway.

Two summers ago I saw my speedo hit 135 passing several vehicles, scared the crap out of myself (but nice to know she'll do it if I ever need to).

Top speed can vary from day to day depending on temp, humidity, headwinds, etc.  I did 135 indicated one day with some throttle left (afraid to find out how much), the next day, on the same stretch of road I had the throttle against the stop at 120.  The only difference was the wind.

Oh, so that would explain why my brothers neighbors Night Train could not beat my 98 at three consecutive stop light drags.

His bike must have had the "Screaming Eagle" prestretched trottle cables.

He accussed me of having nitros oxide on my bike but he could not find any bottle. Grin
