last time I looked there were 129 people signed up for this ride, outstanding, we've had a few cancellations but the rooms seem to fill right back up.... I spoke to the folks that run the restaurant at ground zero and they are going to put on a buffet meal for us from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Friday night in our own private dining area so everyone can eat together...Saturday morning they will have a buffet breakfast set up for us and that will be from 6 AM to 8:30 AM, ride leaves at 9 AM, then that evening they will have another buffet supper for us from 6 PM to 8:30, of course you are not obligated to eat there but they have pretty good food and are some of the nicest people you will ever meet...as time gets closer I'll post more information about the ride...looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones....there's going to be one hellva parking lot party!!!!

I'm really looking forward to this ride. I thought the food at the hotel was good. Definitely a very convenient option. Looking forward to the tire kicking too.

Don and Tracy, Hope this doesn't tag me as the "ride pussy" but I'm concerned about the volume of bikes on these tight, sometimes gravely, roads. Please emphasis spacing and putting a good gap between bikes. Last thing we want is a cluster fu*k. Thanks from Thumper

Please emphasis spacing and putting a good gap between bikes. Last thing we want is a cluster fu*k. Thanks from Thumper Absolutely no gravel roads will be traveled on this ride The Back Of The Dragon ( Hwy 16 ) does sometime have gravel ( marbles ) in the curves from trucks with trailers kickin' them off the shoulder onto the road. This weekend The Back Of The Dragon has a motorcycle rally going on to promote the area with hopes of bringing in the money like US 129 The Dragon does for that area with folks from all over the world coming to ride it staying in motels ,eating in restaurants, buying gas etc...Don and I talked about this last weekend and with all these folks coming in this weekend the VDOT will no doubt sweep all the curves and they should be in great shape....It's only about 4 curves that get the gravel kicked up anyway since you have rode Hwy 16 a large portion has new asphalt and it's awesome . The first stop on this ride will be a small country store that is selling t-shrts,hats etc for The Back Of The Dragon so anyone wanting one will be able to get one here.

My second year comeing to the Hillbilly ride event. Loved it last year. Great mystery meat lunch last year. A big thanks guys, for all the work you do to put this on. Hope to meet lots of new friends.
Joe, I will meet your group Friday @ 12, Shady Valley. I'm coming up from Asheville, should I come down 421 from the Bristol side or some other way? I was looking at some back roads off 26, cutting accross to 421.

I don't believe it has changed. All cities in Virginia are wet.

I rode part of Rt 16 this week....the part that has new pavement also has a new coat of gravel on the sides that have been kicked up on the new pavement. So be careful out there !!! Also, Smyth County (Marion) hasn't been dry in many years. There's a VA ABC store just down the street from ground zero for liquor and several convenience stores (one next door to gz) for beer.
See yall in Marion.....

Hey Don, After breaking my ribs and two vertaba 4 weeks ago I had to make a decision last week on going or not. My better half made the decision for me and said I had better stay home and heal some more. I let my room go to another Valkyrie rider wanting to go, and hope he has a great time. I feel pretty down about not going, and missing all the friends and good riding. I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable trip. Hope to see you and Tracey @ Inzane or the Smokin'Joe's Fall Ride.
