I had a contract to be signed by my client in Florida It came to me friday afternoon at 330 too late to call in UPS or FEDEX but the USPS said Express Mail they would get it to Florida Saturday before noon and I gave the $ before 4pm at the PO I said my client is leaving for vacation Sunday make damn sure that it gets to her. Guess what 1st attempt Monday Took another week to get them signed. Almost lost the deal. Our mailperson comes all different hours of the day even though we are on the only commercial street in the area. Used to be business deliveries were by 10am in the good ole days so I never missed a court notice. Not now. I get notices delivered telling me on Wed to appear in court 2 days ago. Lots of extra work for me

I had a package coming from amazon.com recently. I was tracking it. Even tho it had the correct address here in New Haven, it said 'out for delivery' in Vanwert Ohio at 6am (across the state line 30 miles away). I drove to the PO here to see what was up and to their credit, it was in here in New Haven. Either a posting error or someone made an extra trip to Vanwert to get it?
The postal service seems to have good days and bad days. Overall, they are not reliable for me as far as delivery dates are concerned.

The been good with me when shipping counts. We mail our Sturgis gear out every year. Its around 40 lbs worth of stuff. A big old tote. UPS wants around $120 to ship it and I can ship it USPS for $25. They say it will be there in 3 days. Nope always 2. It also beats us home.

it just depends on the area you live in or send mail to. I used to mail my house payment to the L.A. area it would take 10 days, I refied and my new bank was in Phoenix it olny took 3 days to deliver. express mails fails alot, or it used to in my time at the P.O.

I've ordered computer parts out of California before. I'm in Alabama. Tracking it with the shipping company, it goes from LA to Memphis, TN. Ok. Then to Atlanta, GA. Oops, passed me. Then it is dropped into the USPS system. I get it the next day. If they had sent it USPS I would have gotten it much sooner. I don't understand the system.

I remember (some years ago) needing to next-day a letter, so I went to the Post Office. They said they could only guarantee next day delivery to large Post Offices, and the one I was mailing to didn't qualify. Where was I sending my letter? New York City business district.
Growing up we had mail distribution more often than delivery - generally it would make the right street, just not the right house.
I have to say that for the first time in my life, I'm really blessed with a great letter carrier. If there were more like her, there would be fewer complaints about the post office

But Downtown New York City? near wall street? that's a premonition of a failure right there, I've said I used to send my house payment to the L.A. area and it would take 10 days first class. same thing going into high volume areas, they should have accepted the piece of mail and al least tried. I missed that in your first post that it was going to manhatten.

Sorry to be the Devil's Anvilcate, but I was just bored enough to go to USPS, UPS and FEDEX's sites and get shipping quotes from 21157 to 85281 using a 10 pound box (My packaging) on all three, and here's what I got: UPS Ground - 4 day - $19.09 FedEx Ground - 4 day - $16.83 USPS Priority Mail - 2-3 day - $33.20 Yeah, that's slightly different from what the image had, it used the USPS Flat Rate box (For all 3?) If you're bored, I'll save ya' the trouble of finding 'em, here's the relevant sites to play with: UPS - https://wwwapps.ups.com/ctc/requestFedEx - https://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/homeUSPS - http://postcalc.usps.com/

it just depends on the area you live in or send mail to. I used to mail my house payment to the L.A. area it would take 10 days, I refied and my new bank was in Phoenix it olny took 3 days to deliver. express mails fails alot, or it used to in my time at the P.O. The key phrase is, "it depends". Depends on whether the item best fits their normal handling paradigm. And it depends on where it's coming from, and where it's going. And it depends on what speed you're asking for. And it depends on what the pkg is worth, and whether insurance is needed. So you match which service you use to these dependencies. e.g. - don't use the P.O. for shipping large heavy valuable packages. Use Fedex Ground. Don't use Fedex to ship small, not very valuable pkgs in a hurry to West Undershirt ID. Use USPS. DHL is available only for international shipments; domestic was shut down a few years ago. I haven't used them since - use only USPS for small packages internationally, and Fedex for large ones. It's also possible to ship internationally, piggybacking on shipments with importers/exporters, like automobile dealers for example. If you want the pkg smashed and or lost, and your insurance claim denied or ignored, use UPS.
