Just got back from Deals Gap . 600 mile round trip. If I evere hope to get my wife on for another trip, some real changes in the seating conditions will have to occur. I have a 2000 standard with stock seats. It's either a different seat and back rest or different bike. Are the Ultimate seats that dramatically better or should I be looking at an Interstate or even a Wing. This is my second Valkyrie, but I really want my wife to not be in agony after only 300 miles. Thanks.

Jimmy, Ultimates ARE that good. I didn't think they could be all that and a bag of chips but ran into a deal on a barely used front seat. I replaced my Mustang front with it and I'll admit I wasn't convinced. When I hit the thousand mile break in point it was like someone flipped a switch and there was cushy comfort for my buns. Since then I've bought a back seat, and backrests. Couldn't be happier.

You may also consider some new passenger foot boards or arm rests to add to the comfort... after that new seat.

Carolyn likes her Ultimate seat, I'm pretty sure she'd hate the stocker... notice the Ultimate armrests, she likes them too... -Mike

I have a stock 2000 seat and utopia backrest for me. Wife has ultimate passenger seat and backrest. The wife and I just did 1000 miles over 4 days and no complaints or wiggling from the wife.

The Ultimate seat will do wonders (night & day over oem), but the kicker is the the Ultimate pass. backrest. The angle has been engineered and proven to relieve stress and fatigue in the seat area. I will prolly go with rear floorboards next. The difference will be immediate, but will get better after breakin. They gaurantee it, so you have nothing to lose.

Thanks all. Is the backrest just a pad that fits onto the stock sissybar or the whole thing. The armrest are a good idea.Any good recomendations for the passenger floorboards.I've seen some pretty pricy options.

I got Carolyn some Rivco boards... we haven't gone on a ride yet, and I haven't installed them... I saw an installed set at BMDR... they seemed sweet... they adjust to all kinds of positions... they're hard to get and pricy... I think Big Mike still has a set... -Mike

Anything is an improvement over the stock passenger setup. My wife loved the upgrade to the Mustang seat and backrest, and the Ultimate she likes even better.

Do like I did buy hers first. After she see how much better her seat is, she will tell you need one too. My wife couldn't ride on stock seat more than two hundred miles and even that was a push sometimes. A drives backrest and an ultimate pass. backrest are also a plus.

The Ultimate backrest pad is a replacement for the oem pad, wider and engineered angle, tested & gauranteed. You can try it, if it's not to your liking, send it back. You just can't beat that.

another +1 for Ultimate seats. On my 98 tourer I first replaced my stocks seats with Corbin, all the way around. Much improved ride and comfort level. So next I bought a four piece Ultimate set and after the breaking in (and learning how to put drivers seat on, another story for later ) all is great. She is happy and when that is the case everybody is happy.

Thanks for all the replies. A fellow VRCC member had a brand new set of the Ultimate King seats with both driver and passenger backrests as well as the seat cover for a great price. Should be to me by Thursday. Thanks Jim

Another endorsement for the Ultimate seat here too. My wife absolutely hated the backrest angle on oem Interstate. The change in the Ultimate backrest angle made a H U G E improvement. It's the difference between her going or not. We have the 4 piece Ultimate King Big Boy set, really, really like it. Doing business with Des at Ultimate is also excellent.
All the best,
Mark

If you are asking for your passenger, here's what I have for you. We used to have a 2003 GL1800 Goldwing so my work was cutout for me in finding something that would make a Valkyrie seat comparable to that Goldwing for my Mrs. The Valkyrie seat on my 99 Standard was declared not suitable at all. I had her try two different gel pads with it and neither of them worked out. I then researched this forum and saw good feedback on Ultimate Seats. When I compared them to others, I found their passenger seat was 16" wide, 2" wider than any others that I had looked at. So I went ahead and ordered a set since they had a trial test period and if you don't like them send them back deal. They went on easy. The bike immediately looked fundamentally better. When she first tried the new seat she declared them to be acceptable. Realize, they weren't even broken in yet. It is important to take note of the information above about the passenger backrest being an essential part of this set up. That backrest was as big a deal to her as the saddle. Now that she has some miles on the seat, she is liking it a lot. BTW - I bought one for me as well and I confess this is the most comfortable saddle I have ever owned.
