Aurora, IL.

60 miles West of Chicago!

Times must be tough for the North Aurora, IL. PD. They have this speed trap setup where all the  cops are on foot. They park their cars in the church parking lot and about a block east one of them stands behind a tree with the radar gun checking speeds of the west bound cars. The speed limit on the road they are doing this is 30mph so I'm guessing that when they get a hit the cops just walk out into the street and direct the offender into the church parking lot for the ticket.

behind trees or shrubs. The  hidden MP there radioed the speed and the description of the offending vehicle to a hidden car up ahead. Result = No one ever sped on base.

Ride Safe.

I was going up the A1A in the late nineties heading from the rules in Daytona to the wilder little towns up the highway. The road is as straight as a drag strip, but has some fairly low speed limit that manages to drop as you go into towns. I believe it was Brunswick, but I can't remember. I was moving along feeling good when two cops step out in the road in front of me. They waved me over.
I pulled over.
They lectured me about speed limits, blah blah blah. A pack of bikers came by, all slowed down because I was stopped, then the cops stopped mid-sentence and waved me on.
Apparently they just wanted to make a point by stopping me in front of the other bikers.
The point I received: never ride alone through town.  After that when I got close to town I'd speed up and find a group to fall in behind.

LOL!  When I lived in New Orleans, the police set up a trap on foot at Claiborne Avenue and MLK Street.  Having seen some unusual activity in that area before, I sped by the officer who walked out and pointed for me to pull over.  I was 5 blocks past him and on the Interstate before I realized it was a leo and not someone trying to rob me.   Luckily, they did not have an available squad car to pull me over.
