Day 16 and 17......

6/2 and 6/3 2012

Whitefish MT to Spokane via Amtrak.....Sleep, and some riding around Spokane.

My last report ended as I was in Whitefish, MT awaiting to travel to the train station with my Uncle Tom to travel back to Spokane.  About 7:25 we departed the Motel, picked up a bit of grub at a BBQ place, and headed to the station where we consumed our food and he awaited his “orders”.  I learned quite a bit regarding the protocol pertaining to the operation of a train.  The orders consist of constantly updated track information, and lots of other “stuff”.    Basically an updated guide 'roadmap' as to track conditions and other factors.    Here is Tom inside the “Shanty” reviewing the orders.....

As he was busy perusing the detailed information, I ventured out to the platform to record a few images of the station and area.

Arrived in Spokane in the early AM.  Grabbed a bit of food at a Mexican Place, and was soon back at Tom's house sleeping.  Met up with the rest of the family for an early lunch.  After lunch, changed the oil,  and managed to spill at least a quart on the driveway.  The kitty litter came in handy.

A bit later, it was time to explore a bit of Spokane, and took my Cousin Abby for a ride.  Spokane is a pretty interesting city.  The highlight, at least to me, are the rapids/falls, right in downtown....

Another of the “institutions” is Dicks.....

.This place is always busy.

The Garland Theater at the corner of Garland and Memorial....Way cool sign!!

And the return of the pink helmet.....

That is it for today.  A bit more rest, planning, then starting the journey home on Tuesday.

The highlight, at least to me, are the rapids/falls, right in downtown....

We have some cool rapids downtown in my hometown, Greenville, SC...

And a Whacky bridge, it is pretty cool to walk over...

We took "The Valkyrie Mug" through there...
