hey guys, ive been doing some tire shopping and i did a bunch of searching on here and id just like everybody's thoughts on there favorite tires. im looking for something thats going to last and handle well 2 up.i did some looking online and saw several choices metzlers(i have now) dunlops bridgestones avons pirellis and shinkos.... and i saw alot of people had issues with the shinkos a couple years ago although they apparently have a new heavy cruiser tire called the se890 journey not much info on them though anyhow feel free to post your opinions cuz thats what im asking for .

I have a 98 standard. The OEM Dunlops lasted 9000 miles.....junk. Since then I've been riding Avon Venoms and now the Avon Cobras. I like them a lot. They handle very well and I'm getting twice the wear out of them and I ride two up about 80% of the time. The Cobras have been even better than the Venoms.

I liked the dunny 180/65B/16 rear replacement tire for the big HD's. Bias ply, over 1000 lbs load rating, lasts me 20K miles. new left, 20k on right.  Hoser

Avon Venom, then Avon Cobra when they stopped making Venoms. Love the handling when combined with Progressive fork springs and Progressive 440 shocks.
I run them at ~45# front and back.
Should be a bunch of different opinions...but whatever floats your boat.

D/S rear and now a Shinko 890 on the front which replaced a Metzler 880 that i got 14454 miles out of.  Over 2000 miles on the Shinko and liking what i'm experienceing.  RIDE SAFE.

Avon Cobras: I have 16k on the rear and haven't worn it out yet (46PSI). Front gets 24K+ at 42 PSI.

Before my Bridgestone Potenza CT, Metzeler 880's front and rear. 45psi front and rear, gets abt 8K on the rear, and 14K front. Metzeler's are the stickiest MT I ever rode on.

I'm running the Avon Venoms now , like the feel and handling but got more road noise from the front . I ride mostly single but with super full Leather Likes and a full travel bag on the back

So far that Shinko on the front DO NOT disapoint me at all.  I've pushed up past 120 M P H indicated and i'm talkin at ya!!  Have yet to run it in the rain.  To this point(little over 2000 miles)in time showing no wear.  My rear(D/S)and the front have Dyna Beads in them.  IF it goes south and don't take me out in the process i'll let everyone here know.  Should it keep running the way i expect it to-ya'll know that also.  RIDE SAFE.

The lack of serious debate is probably because many of us are weary of oil and tire threads. My 2 cents is that I agree that the Metzlers are the stickiest but they don't last nearly as long as the Avons. Avons have never let go on me and give me the best wear.

He must not lean over very much, look at all the tread left on the sides. I had an E3 rear wear out just like that after about 7,000 miles. The front made so much noise that I finally couldn't stand it and took it off early.

yall should travel to upstate ny there are pleanty of "cow path" roads lol i just did a ride from syracuse to cooperstown on state route 80 was a beautiful ride check it out on google maps sometime

Pretty much the same here. On/off ramps are about the main attraction as far as riding the twisties goes. But, I can be in north Ga in a few hours!

I bought my 99 Standard with Dunlop E3 tires that had about 3K miles on them. I have since put another 4K miles - so 7K total. This includes an Ironbutt Bunburner ride of 1583 miles in 35 hours at CA freeway speeds. Handling remains reasonable in corners and they still look like they have a long ways to go before replacing them. I ride two up about 20% of the time.

Yup, Chicago native here, there are even fewer curves in South Florida. Except at the beach...  I used to live in Lake County Il. And i used to live in Colorado. I'll stick here in the Ozarks now thank you very much. Lot milder winters and i aint all that far from my front door to scraping pegs.  RIDE SAFE.

Hacksaw... I use a grinder with a cut off wheel, take a bar and hold the bead away from the wheel, just cut the bead and up about an inch, tire falls off. I just got a shinko 890, and it looks great! and at 110 shipped, i think it will be good even if it only lasts 10k. the E3 on the front only lasted 7k with 42 psi in it. Now it is at the wear bars it is starting to cup, so its time for a new one.

My favorite is the Avon's as well (cobras) I got over 20,000 miles on my last rear tire and nearly 24,000 on the front. Now I do run a bit more air pressure than those of you posted I run 48 lbs in rear and 45 in the front.
