I finally got em off so here goes. 1.What is the advantage of desmoging & would that make it a little more room  & easier when putting the carbs back? 2. I was sortta disaqppointed as I removed 2 of the carb bowels & they are squeaky clean! I was hopeing to see some gunk & a obevious reason for my problem , mosty what i've read is about low speed jets & float valves so is that enough to run right or no? Even though I'me not keeping the bike .....now that I'me there I plan to r&r ALL vac hoses...in line filter & a Pingle. just makes sence.99 model /60 K. This is a first for me & I'me sure I'll need lots & lots of input so please chime in?

Sounds like you are getting rid of the bike.  If so, why desmog it?   Just more work for you.

Now, why did you take the carbs out?

If you want help. we need to know what the problem is that we are trying to assist you with.

RJ    thanks for asking.8 months ago I got a $700.00+ job at a local Honda dealer & it ran better but not quite like before. It began to not idel & run rough at low speeds.I took it back & they said they could hear vacume & wanted me to leave it so s they could ck. it out.I agreed & I made it clear that I did not want another $700.00 carb job.Couple days later they called to tell me I needed a cab  job.I declined & went to pick up what I had rode there to find that now it is HYDROLOCKED .The mechanic wanted me to look at it while he had #6 plug out but I was way too hot for that.I camly told him to leave it be & that I'd pick it up.When I returned the bike was sitting outside , I loaded & left.I pulled all 6 plugs & spun it.All was good ,no fuel.I put the plugs back & fired it up.It ran very poorly 3 exhaust pipes got hot 3 cold.I shut it off & let it sit 1 hour, hit the button & CLANK.I removed the tank & the pet rooster  seems to be not leaking?  .Yes I need to sell the bike as I have 2 ,IS s . & do not ride enough to keep both of them up .The other is a trike.I just thought the desmogging would make putting the carbs back a little easier? And at the same time improving the whatever it improves?     THANKS HARRY

Henry! Ya did it? Welcome to the club. A dealer wont care for your valk like you would regardless if you sell it or not. Theres a LOT of help here and I am certain you will prevale! What you learn from this venture will help keep the other IS's going. Maybe referencing some of your past posts about your problem will help those willing to help you so you wont have to retype it all

Sure sounds like that at least three slow speed jets are plugged. The three cylinder that we're running cold should give you a clue as to which ones need attention.

There is no adantage to desmogging. It won't runner any better. Removing smog stuff just cleans up the look of the bike a bit.

I'd certainly desmog it with RedEye's shiney kit. With the carbs out it should be pretty easy. There's NO downside to the desmog IMHO and you'll lose a few old and potential vacuum leak opportunities. Plus it really does clean up the top of the engine. I did mine a couple months ago and also added the Dan Mark fuel solenoid as per MarkT's excellent instructions found here: http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/Fuel_Shutoff/fuel_shutoff.html

You may end up keeping it afterall. The value of these bikes have taken a plunge so you'd have to really want to sell it at todays prices anyway.

All the best,

Mark

Yep ! Dozer I did it.....u gave me just enough courage. I wish now that I had read the removal proceedure several times before I did it.....mabe like memorize it ! Instead I breezed thru it & started with # 1 ....I thought I was gonna need a winch truck to get em out! I'll read & re reade & study well before I remove the first jet!Good thing about it.....it's on the way up now. I think ?!!     Thanks for the concern/help  HARRY

You're welcome Harry...just take LOTS & lots of pics both before you take something apart and a progression as you preceed. Make notes and refer often to the maintenance manual. If you dont have one, the Honda manual is available here free...just copy the link and down load. That way you can print a page as you need it, write all over it and make notes and not worry about it getting dirty. You can do a search here and find that link. There are also several topics here about carb rebuild, install, sync and so on...and a lot of pics too. If ya have a problem or question, just ask. No one here may know everything but collectively, theres nothing they dont know!  Grin I am no expert in any way, shape or form but I will be happy to impart what I have done and learned in the process. This weekend I expect to hear the fat lady sing...or puke..one or the other! 2funny
