I did a little research and thought these might be a good compromise between the comfort of work/combat style boots and the protection of sport/racing style motorcycle boots. They're leather and I'm sure they'll break in and soften up, but it will take a few tanks of gas to get used to them. They're about 4" taller than the work boots I've been riding in until now and feel stiff like a pair work-grade rubber boots. I have to make an effort to get my left toe pointed in enough to downshift. They are also hotter than work boots, but they are comfortable on my feet and will no doubt keep them toasty warm and dry on cold, rainy days. These are intended to be for dual sport riders and reviewers talk about standing in streams with dry feet. I like that they have stitch-on soles rather than soles moulded to the upper, because I should be able to get them re-soled when required. My jeans and chaps just barely fit over them without looking stretched.  |

I mostly ride in waterproof and non-waterproof (light) swat boots (like Mike's Danners), but I picked a pair of Alpinestar Alpha boots up on closeout at a local Metric dealer last year, and they made me understand what motorcycle specific boots are supposed to be. All man made materials (no leather), totally water and weatherproof, and (thou uninsulated) warmer than any other boots I have (including 400 thinsulate hunting boots... because even waterproof/insulated lacers let cold air in the tongues while riding). They have good traction, but not as good as swat boots, and I don't like the thinner soles as well as swat boots either, and they will never be good walking boots (for any distance), but in cold and wet they cannot be beat. The inner armor and protection is also clearly superior to swat boots. I got them before I got my bike. I've put 50,000 miles on them since then. They're super quality, and no where near worn out. They claim waterproofness, but they probably tested them by walking around in a creek, and not by injecting water under 50+mph pressure for several hours... I bet motorcycle boots that claim waterproofness might be motorcycle-waterproof... I used to get squishy in my motocross boots, brands like Sidi and stuff, but I don't remember anything about their claims... Danner makes a lot of boots, some in Oregon(?) and some in China... look for that tag if that is part of your motivation. It was part of the sale for me... -Mike |

I use these on my Harley boots. They work great.  Oooooo! Sexy!  Just yankin' your chain! I bought my new boots so I wouldn't have to fuss with over-boots, especially when on the side of the road as the rain is getting harder. |
