So, I was stopped at a light, and a guy on an S/T style bike (I don't know the make)pulled up beside me.  We said "hello" and then the light changed.  We both took off the line fairly easy, then I heard him roll on the throttle, so I did the same.  Heres where it got weird...I was in third, and redlined it, and never could catch him.  He had me beat the whole way.  So, my question is WTH??? The only clue I could see before he got out of reach was a sticker that said dynajet or something like that...

I had never gotten beat like that before.

S/T? Like an ST1300? Like this one:

If so, yeah... Those will chew a Valk up and spit it out all day long with ease... The Valk is fast compared to other cruisers, but compared to real performance bikes, hate to admit it, but we're riding a dump truck... A very lovely dump truck, to be sure, but just the same...

Good luck agaunst the ST1300.  To get that one the guy has to be a dips!@#, or you've got to be really lucky. Think Goldwing/cbr1000 love child.

Yeah, it was something like that.  I didn't realize they were that quick.  It just stings a little getting burned like that.  with that said, I have been thinking about something like that if I ever decide I can afford a second bike...

I got behind a few of them on the Snake one day. Thought I could
keep up with them for a while.......HA!! I lasted about 4 curves!!
Those things are basically sport bikes in a touring package. Might
be de-tuned a little and a little bit heavier, but still a sportbike.

The Yamaha 1300 twins to the Honda 1300 are just as fast as the Honda and a tad cheaper.  My neighbor has the Yamaha 1300 touring sport bike and although nice, doesn't seem all that comfy especially with his misses hanging out on each side of that rear seat -  coolsmiley

Would be an interesting race though both of us riding 2-up to see who'd win.  Not sure if the Yamaha 1300 has more torque to pull all that weight like the Valk has?  Undecided

The blue ST1300 I posted the picture of is my Valk's stablemate. Technically it's the spousal unit's, but she hasn't ridden it at all since she found out she was pregnant with triplets over 1.5 years ago now, so I consider it my second bike.

And yeah, they're lighter than the Valk, and while the engine is a hair smaller in displacement (1300CC vs. 1520CC) sorry to say it, but there IS a replacement for displacement. Love my Valk, but it's got all the technology of a 1978 Buick in it's engine. The ST1300 uses a lot more technology to generate power.

Whenever the Valk just isn't feeling fast enough for me, I'll take a spin on the ST1300. I can't ride it a terribly long time because it kills my back (I'm not exactly... petite... and have a bad back to boot) but it's plenty fast enough for me.

The Honda ST1300 ( I've ridden one for over 95,000 miles) is a sports TOURER

The Yamaha FJR is a SPORTS tourer.

Please remember that both bikes have way much more ground clearance in the twisties and a lot more zoom zoom than a Valkyrie once above 4,000 rpm.

I'm sorry to say that from a standing start  the ST will walk away from a Valk as a 600cc sports bike will walk away from the ST.

If you really want to be humbled, go mess with a BMW 1600GT.  That thing is a sport bike trapped in a touring bike's body.

It will send you back to picking on stock Harleys, Intruders and Vulcans.

I'd LOVE to have an ST1300.

I may end up with a 1250 Bandit one of these days... Roll Eyes

The Valk is fast the way my Dodge Magnum is fast.  It's fast... for a fat girl.  But against an athlete?  Not so much.

I agree with all the comments here. I have a friend who rides an ST and he can walk away from me on my Valkyrie at any time. However, I knew the Valkyrie wasn't the fastest bike available when I bought it and I accept that. I love the look, the power, and what I call the mystique of the Valkyrie.
I am a proud owner and rider of the fat lady and enjoy the ride immensely.

It could have been a Concours 1400.  Almost any sport tour can easily eat the Valks lunch, both in handling and performance.  I love mine, it has the same engine as the ZX1400, detuned and refined a little. The ZX is just a raw adrinelin rush much like the Hayabusa, the Connie is just sweet.   Bonus for us older folks is it is light and flickable, and much easier to handle than the Valks, especailly the Interstate.  Of course compairing one of these to the valk is not really valid as they are in completely different classes.

Heck, my VTX1800 is faster than my Valk. However, if I had to choose between the two, the decision would be predictable;
the VTX would be gone.  Lips Sealed

There will always be a faster bike in the horizon. Do we care? I think not! coolsmiley
