hello,

i went to the local honda dealer to get me a new oil filter for my Flat6, and i received a new model : type 15410-MCJ-505.
i had him check again that it was really fit for my ride. he said it was the new filter for all big bikes.
i was already surprised last year that the one i bought then was about 1/2 " shorter then the one that was on, but this model is only 2,5 inch long as it is wide, and it has written on it to torque it with 24 to 30 Nm.

i took my torquewrench out and set it to 24Nm and that felt like a whole LOT of torque for an oil filter. i hope i will get it back off later.

its smaller size will probably only minorly affect the required oil quantity, but
Will this effect the filter's ability to filter?
Has anyone had any experience with this filter ?

Hondaline still refers to 15410-MFJ-D01.

when i googled the nr i found some same stories : new filter / common element for more bikes / need shorter element to fit pipes on some bikes, etc.

i am not interested in all that common crap, i just want the right filter for my big engine. i already ordered a set of the old ref. at hondaline.

Check Jeff K's listing of generic parts in the Shop Talk Section.  Personally, I use the WalMart brand--
#ST7317(made by Champion Labs-mfrer for Bosch and Mobil 1)  @ $2.95.  This is about an inch longer than OEM, has a higher capacity, and is probably about $10 cheaper then your Honda stealer's charge and is alot better.

I got the same deal at my local dealer (not sure of the part number as I'm not at home).  They were having an open house with filters for $6.00.  The shop had a huge box of one size fits all.  The same as Anthony, I had the dealer look it up to confirm the filter was correct for the Valkyrie.

Checked when I got home and sure enough, the filter is slightly shorter then the Honda filter (purchased about 2 years ago) currently on my bike.

If ya got $$$$ to through away, throw some of it my way, would ya please?  I'm a poor old retired broke person since Bam Bam went into office.....

You go to the dealer and buy a filter, you are paying close to 150% more for it than the ones I get from the auto supply store.  The only after market filter I won't buy is FRAM.

MGM has only had 1 original oil filter on him in the past almost 13 years.   That was the one that came on him when delivered and it was gone at 500 miles.

241,000 + miles using an off brand filter and he still runs like a scaled dog and has no smoke out the rear..................

So go to an auto store and save yourself some chrome $$$$ for later use.

Anthony,   If you do want to stay with the "Honda" brand, go to the Honda car dealer and get a filter for the Honda Pilot. It is the "long" version, it's blue, but you can paint it.
