May 26th, mounted up early in the am (official 5:39 am) and headed west. The winds were 30 - 40 mph out of the south with gust at 60 mph. Turned around at Denver for the return to home. Arrived home 10:40 pm. Saw two pull campers blown over, one of the tow vehicles had rolled. I also come up on a blown over 18 wheeler, cab laying in driving lane with trailer in median.

That is one trip I will never forget.

Received an email today informing me my SaddleSore 1000 ride has been certified.

Congrats on the SS 1K!
Not many people can say they've done that.
Now go for a BB Gold
Nice job!

Motorcycling is not, of itself, inherently dangerous.
It is however, extremely unforgiving of: inattention, ignorance, incompetence or stupidity.

Thanks Joe. I admit I am excited about planning my next IBA ride. The wind was so bad that day I am convinced I could have completed it hours sooner but I had to stop for gas so often. It was the worse gas mileage I ever experienced............and it wasn't the speed I was riding that was causing it.

Yer a better man than I am, Gunga Din.  I'm trying for 800 Sunday to the Voai reunion in Keystone SD.  May stop in northern Nebraska if I get tired.  Been a few years since I did 1000 miles in a day.  To paraphrase The bandits in Treasure of the Sierra Madre, License plate frames, license plate frames?  We don need no stinkin license plate frames!  How many remember it?
besides Willow, he remembers everything!  Sad   Grin  Hoser
PS, I saw the movie when it was new!  Shocked

Way back when, I was interested in doing some IB stuff, but when I heard the $$$ Kneebone wanted for certification, I said screw it.

So I went out and did them myself and always had the stuff to back it up if someone question it.         I don't care whether other people approve of the certificates, I know I sure don't and I still have the entry fee in my pocket.

I've done the 4 corners, a 1K run in 24, the left coast to the right coast run.

I've also got all the lower 48 state capitals, and Hawaii but it was on a rented bike in 2000.

But who cares, I don't, as like I said I know I did them.

The left coast to the right coast and back had to be done twice.    I took too long on the first try.

I've also done the Mexico to Canada run.

How do you think MGM got all those miles on him?     Yup, running around the USA.   He has been in Alaska twice, but one doesn't count.    He rode up and back on the boat.   Never do that boat ride again.
