to go down.

Still tryin to figure out what went wrong. I had a doctors appointment this afternoon, and it being a beautiful day decided to take the phat girl for a little spin.

There making a new connection between two roads that never connected. Instead of making my usual right, I decided to take the new road. Well I went up over a bridge that goes over the turnpike, and there are orange cones everywhere switching people from one lane to the other with a curve to the right almost immediately after the bridge. Truthfully the only thing I remember is hearing my tires screeching and the next thing I know I'm going over the curb into the median. The bike first fell to the right, and I guess in the soft sand it sorta fliped and landed over on the left side.

All in all I guess I'm pretty lucky. Got a baseball size lump on one leg and some pain just about everywhere else. The bike faired pretty good as well. I've got a bunch of scuff marks, my highway peg got relocated, and I got a 3 inch crack in my fairing. There may be more but this just happened about two hours ago and I've not really gone over her yet.

My question is do I report this to my insurance company or just deal with it by myself?

It could have been a whole lot worse, this I know I'm a very lucky guy-

How much is your deductible?
How much to fix it?

Now decide if you want to file a claim or just cover it yourself.

Yikes!  I'm not ready to start taking turns with these accidents.

Glad to hear that you are relatively OK though.

Tomorrow morning you may discover more injuries or at least more discomfort.  If that lump on the leg doesn't go away really quickly, get it checked out.

A good painter (and skilled ABS repairman) can fix that fairing for a no more than a couple hundred dollars.

Look the bike over vary carefully.  If it's no worse than you initially assessed you probably should just fix it yourself.  There's more than money involved in insurance claims.  I personally won't claim it unless there's a very significant gap between my deductible and the cost.

I'm glad you fared as well as well as you did.

When my turn comes around again, I think I'll just pass.   Wink

All I can really say is it's some really scary crap--

Been contemplating geeting her painted something other than my fast black anyway- maybe this will just push that project along faster.

G-D I really thank my luck stars on this one-

Forgot to mention the golf ball size dent in the fuel tank-

Oops!   Shocked  If it will pull out all is well.  If not, that can be an expensive repair.

If the edges of the dent are smoothly rounded it will likely pull.  If there's a crease involved ...   Undecided

Might be worth at least calling your insurance agent, just to notify them.  Talk is cheap, as they say.  You can talk to your agent about the issue, let them know what happened, ask all of the questions you have, and then tell them you haven't decided if you want to file a claim.  They should be happy to help you with deductibles, etc.  Another factor would be Dr. bills.  If you discover in the morning that something is broken/serious, you may want to file a claim for help paying the medical bills, rather than using your health in$urance.

Glad it wasn't worse...

Oh no,...not another broken I/S fairing!!!
Went down 10 days ago and I'm not 100% yet.
But the I/S went to the collision shop today,...never even asked about the cost of repair.
But they are one of the best in metro Detroit.

Good luck and speedy healing

Disco, it looks like I lucked out once again as the dent seems to have no creases as Willow mentioned. If your guy is semi local I'd love his info-

Glad to hear it wasn't worse. Hope you heal quickly. There are two kinds of riders - those who have been down and those who will go down. When you do you just hope and pray you will be able to walk away from it. As far as turns, I guess I am greedy because I have taken three turns and totaled two bikes. No, I am not careless or inexperienced. One was with a deer and the other two were with cages driven by idiots - all unavoidable. Anyway, good luck on the repairs and again heal quickly. Hef

Well I just got back from driving to the "scene of the crime". After putting all the pieces together I'm embarrassed to say that after decades of riding with hundreds of thousands of miles under me that I'm the victim of a stupid rookie mistake and my incident was complete operator error.

I've been shaken to the core, and don['t know if I can get back on the horse again. Anyone looking for a slightly damaged I/S cheap 42k on her-

I won't go to the end of the line, but I will take a potty call......

Heal fast and correctly, that piece of iron can be repaired or replaced.

It happens.  Riders with multiple riding courses completed and many miles of experience still make mistakes. Comes with the "human" part of our makeup.  Count your blessings and give thanks.

I'd recommend just working on the Valk and fixing whatever's broke for a while.  You may feel differently after a few days or weeks.  Most do.  And if you don't, that's OK, too!

Slick, hate to say it but $hit happens even to riders who are in control and paying attention

Count your blessings,  it coulda been much worse.

IMHO Ride as soon as possible even if just around the block, then think a whole bunch about what makes you happy in this world and do whatever works for you.

Thank you Evan, and everybody else for the kind words.

A good friend called a few minutes ago, who didn't know about the accident yet. Long story short, we're going for a short ride tomorrow- wish me luck

Ive already had my turn.
Take a few days to make sure what hurts today is looked after tomorrow.
My intial issues went on for 3 months.
4 years plus later, still issues.
Most Ive just chosen to live with at this point.
Some you cant do anything about.

The bike can wait.
Get well 1st.
Get back on as soon as you can and dont look back.
crap happens.
Me, I have no memory of how it happened, so I had no fears hopping back on 11 months later.
