Came home tired from work yesterday and jacked the bike up so I could remove the front wheel to get a new Avon installed. My speedometer cable "screw loop" for lack of a better term has been cracked for years where the machine screw passes through to attach it to the front hub. Well, yesterday evening I managed to completely break it. So I come in at 7:30pm to order one and get it next dayed. That increased my shipping cost by nearly $25 but oh well, gotta have it. Then tried to drop my wheel and tire off at the shop that does my mounting after work today only to find they are closed on Wednesdays. So I took it to another shop, they will have it done when I come through after work tomorrow but they're charging $45 for mounting and balancing it. The one that was closed only charges $25. Sigh!!!! On top of that my "partner in crime" at work, the other maintenance guy and a truly top notch industrial mechanic/electrician turned in his 2 week notice Monday. I'm really happy for him landing a hopefully much better job, and I feel good about it since I trained him but it's gonna make things tough until I get someone else in. We've been butt deep in overtime lately as it is, looks like it'll be a lot more of the same for me now.

Thats why I bought the Harbor Freight tire changer. I can do the tires on MY schedule...for free. It paid for itself in under 3 tires...and thats not even counting the convenience.

Well you can always cross your fingers that next week will be better. We get to pay $50 for a tire change around here when you bring in the tire. I don't want to know how much it is if you bring in the bike. HF doesn't sell tire changers anymore, but I got a N0-Mar and I LOVE IT.

I'll have to get a tire changer eventually. The tire seems balanced but they've got enough weights on it to cast 50 rounds of 45acp I think. Not gonna be able to make it to Inzane unfortunately. The surgery to remove that plate from my leg took most of my vacation this year. If we can't convince my buddy to stay ($$$$$$) I won't be getting any vacation time till after I have someone else trained well enough to keep the plant going in my absence.

Around here, not only do they charge you for bringing in a tire to change, but there is also a "Tire Disposal" Fee at most places....... $5-10
I said no thanks and took the tire home.. and then realized there is no easy 'Legal" way to get rid of a tire free......... trash guys wont pick it up..... and its not right to dump it in somebody elses dumpster....
So it is still sitting beside my garage........ I'll do something with it one of these days... Planter?

If you have a big tree and grandkids, you could make a tire swing. Or if you are really creative and have the time and talent, you could try your luck at making one of these swings: http://www.classictoystore.com/animal_tire_swings.htm

Got a tire mounted and balanced yesterday for 25 bucks at the local independent shop. I brought the tire and wheel to them. If I had them pull it off the bike it would have been 75 bucks. I figured I made 50 bucks an hour by doing it myself in the garage. On a down note I also saw that I need new front brakes soon.
