Okay...I've said it before...hail pretty much sucks. I've got welts all over...including a couple that would be classed as contusions. Right arm is pretty much useless at the moment. Also, a couple new dents in the Valk.

The highway shut down as soon as it started hailing. Nowhere to go...lots of quarter sized...the occasional tennis ball whistling through the air and "thunking" off something. Me. Twice. Shattered the back window out of the car directly in front of me and one beside him. Saw many more after it was over and traffic broke up.

Holy friggen ouch.

We missed it today... I noticed radar was showing some storms over you guys there a bit ago...   I have been in hail once or twice on a bike, I don't want anymore!

A bike with hail dents, unique personality trait perhaps??

Ride safe.

I darn near had that experience. Quite a few years ago was headed west in S. Dakota and the sky was black....at 1:00pm. I had just gone by an underpass when I saw this trooper coming up behind me real fast with his light flashing, so I pulled over like a good citizen. He stopped next to me and pointed to my right, not more than 300 yds. away was a funnel headed our way. We both spun around and headed full speed back to the undepass about a half mile back. I laid the old Harley on its side, and scampered up the embankment. The funnel passed right over it, the bike moved a little but thankfully stayed put, as did I. What a sound, like nothing I've ever heard before....or since. I found out later that crawling up under the bridge like we did was not the smartest thing we could have done. Not sure what would have been smarter, I sure wasn't going to stand in the middle of the underpass though....the debris was tremendous.

Sounds like you need to carry an industrial strength umbrella on your bike.

My backyard in fall is about the same with acorns from 5 hundred year old oaks.... It's worth some big pain, welts and broken glasses to go out there in the wind.

once the winds get over hurricane force I am definitely off the bike

I carry a length of rope in the valkyrie and your story reminds me of the end of twister

Dont care if its the best solution but if I can get under an overpass again because no where else to go I am tying myself to the bridge

At 91 mph wind I can tell you the Valkyrie CAN and WILL move even tho on a sidestand and you sittin on the brakes  I chose NOT to lay it down, maybe I should if there is a next time

Glad you got away Daniel and John

And less than 20 miles away in central Arlington - not a drop.  2 miles away at the stadium, rain delay for the Rangers-Diamondback game.

News reports show cars shelled in Dallas.  You are fortunate to have gotten out with that little of damage.

Beats hell out of laying in a ditch away from the structure, which is how the so called "experts" say it should be done.  You proved that they are full of crap.  I hid under an overpass many times in 40 years of riding, never have laid down in a rain filled ditch out in the open.  Just don't make sense to me.  Hoser

Been 20 or more years ago, but a horrible storm went through Wichita Falls, lots of buildings and homes lost. Most of the deaths came from people laying in the ditch and drowning from the storm water from the horrible rains that poured. Yeah, laying in the ditch. Just like they used to tell you to do.

Hoser, my brother and I laid in a ditch with water in like about 57 or 58.   Tornado went over the top of us.   Lost a 57 Olds J2 in the process.   It got rolled into a ball and stuck in a ditch about 3 miles away.   Only way they knew it was my car was the California license plate was visible in the mud and debris.

So, yes, if I have to, I'll hit a water filled ditch to survive a Tornado.

Here is a link to mine, only mine was a White and Green color.

I'm going to have to agree with Hoser on this one.  Maybe growing up in Kansas and Oklahoma has affected my opinion, but given the choice, I still think I'll be safer up top, under the overpass, between the concrete abutments and steel girders and I'll be lying in the ditch getting hit by debris.  The "experts" say that the winds will suck you out from under the bridge, but it has worked in the past and I see no reason to change something that has worked before.   Been too close to 3 tornadoes and will probably be again.  Living in Missouri hasn't improved my chances that much and I'm still young.  Only 55.
