All,
I have to go to a convention in Nashville next week and was thinking about riding the bike and having Sunday to ride the area and Monday to get home....
Problem is, I have to work til 10 AM on Thursday and have to be in Nashville That night..
I'm thinkin at least 10 hours in the saddle...... with gas stops...
Opinions?
Brad

You should be able to easily. Depends on the roads, interstates make it easy, side roads will slow you down some. Not familiar with that area...
ride safe,

I've gone that far for barbecue! (as far as practical information, if I'm burning interstates, I usually figure a 60mph average with gas and goes and a couple solid meal stops, I've done much better, and much worse...)

10 hrs on the road. you can make Cincinnati in 4-1/2 to 5 hrs. no problem.
D to C = 263 miles. on I-75 C to N = 274 miles. take I-71 to I-65
537 miles
9 hours averaging 60 Mph.

Oh yea..... Did Pittsburgh to Myrtle Beach and back a few times..... 620 miles and about 11hours. Drink plenty of fluids, pack some water. Those interstate roads and sun can dry ya out.... stay hydrated.

bring some good ear plugs or the wind noise will drive you nuts on the Interstates.

Last week to the Hillbilly Ride event the GPS said 540 miles and 8 hours of highway. The ride down was about 11 hours. The ride home was a bit rough, almost stopped for an overnight, but pushed on and did it in 12Hrs. I love to ride , for me highway marathons are not a lot of fun.

It is very doable, but, ya can't dilly dally around at fuel stops.
Gas up, go in and pay, go potty and grab a bottle or 2 of water.
Take off... If it is eatin time, in corporate that into your gas stop.
Gas only stops of no longer than 15 minutes, food incorporated only .

stay hydrated and keep your skin from overexposure to the sun and you will do fine.
That's a fairly leasurely ride for a lot people on this board.

Absolutely do-able. So long as traffic cooperates.
Made an attempt last summer to do Robbinsville, NC to Pittsburgh, PA (~560 miles), but 2 accidents and a traffic jam prevented that. Have a method to plan an alternate route if need be and you'll be OK.
Am planning on heading to Myrtle next month, and the plans are for a one day trip there and one day trip back. We'll prolly be on the road earlier than 10am, but you'll be OK.
As has been said before, consolidate stops, hydrate and you'll be good to go.

It's up to you if you can make it or not. I have done that many miles or more in one day many times, sometimes it didn't bother me a bit, other times it kicked my a$$. Just start your ride very early in the morning and be sure to stop in mid afternoon for a long break. The heat of the day will be mid afternoon and that is what will drain you of energy.

Thanks all.... I will be going by bike... I have done 500+ miles in a day, but that was a 16 hour day on 2 lane roads..... and once in the rain to get home, but usually keep it under 400.... Main concern is not leaving til after 10 AM and getting there before dark..... and traffifc.. I know Cincy is a bitch at times crossing at the bridges on 75- have done it several times and been there at rush hour. not fun. I'll just run at 110 most of the time to average 100 and get there in 6 hours...... NOT! I'll plan on 10 hours and get there around 8 PM Brad

Take I-75 to Lexington and the Blue Grass parkway over to I-65. Nice alternative to Louisville and I-71.

Last July we rode from Bellaire, MI to Gray, TN (near Johnson City) in 16 hrs. Google Earth says it's 793 miles and will take 13 hrs. You should be ok from Detroit to Nashville.

We left Cheaha AL pulling trailer 2 up and made it back to NE Ind in 1 day.
Went to L-ville a month ago for some whiskey. Rode down, bought some whiskey, took in a nude show, and rode back home by dark. 460 miles.

No sweat! Seems I needed a burger in Brawley, Ca for lunch one day couple of months ago. Took the scenic route then went home. 700+ miles for the day. A friend looked at my map and called it,"The eggplant on a rope tour"! Made me snort!

Fluids. Can't stress that enough. I took off from Amarillo TX to Charlotte NC on July 5th last year. close to 1400 miles and 2 days later I was at the hotel in South Charlotte. 100+ temps all the way across Oklahoma first day. Supposed to be a nice motorcycle museum in Nashville. Enjoy the ride.

Riding 570 miles in a day is no big deal...........BUT>>>>>>>what concern's me is that you mentioned something about getting off work and heading out..if you are tired to start the ride things could turn to (#&)^$) in a big hurry. I don't know how old you are, but I can tell you that I couldn't work a shift then take of for a 10 hour ride.. Personally I prefer to leave in the early AM then ride til mid afternoon, then find a place to hang for the night and enjoy the evening.

When I was in college, I worked at the Shoe Factory in DeWitt Arkansas. There was a guy there who had made the trip from somewhere in California to DeWitt with his wife on a Honda 90. This guy was about 6', and rail thin not weighing in at more than 120lb. HIs wife, on the other hand probably tiped the scales at close to 200. They came from California on that little bike with everything they owned. He always dressed in cowboy hat and boots. His belt buckle weighed as much as he did. I've kept that mental image in mind for years. While I admire his gumption, it had to have been a comical site.
