Day 27 and 28....Reno, Lake Tahoe, Reno, and back to Lake Tahoe

6/13-14.....2012

Oh Fudgggggeeeeee......It's a blowout!!

Reno!!!  A very interesting place.   The day started as planned.  Up about 7:00, cooked some eggs in the room, (hey, I'm still camping) and took off for McD's for some Wifi and more coffee.  Checked out the maps and planned my route from Reno to the Tahoe area.  Great ride up through Mt. Rose, and descended down into the Lake Area.  This place is really special.  Clearest Lake I've ever seen.

Continued around the lake and returned via Carson City.  This was supposed to be a “must see” place, but I guess I missed the “must see” parts.  There is an historic court house, but I've seen plenty of those during my travels......

Made it back to Reno around 4:30 and actually got a little down time at the pool.  Hung out reading the atlas.  Very exciting times!!

Today I “checked out” and headed back West to California!  And here I thought the return trip had begun.  I wanted to see more of Tahoe, so I found a great camping spot about 6 miles south of the Lake.  A national forest......FREE!!  All of the other state and federal parks are $35.00 for a tent!  This place is really nice.  Giant granite boulders everywhere.  About 7000 feet up in the mountains, near Christmas Peak.

A bit of a challenging day.  Headed South/East on I80 to visit Truckee, CA and then the Squaw Valley Area......Site of the 1960 Winter Olympics.   Irony struck big.  My spare tire caused a blowout on my trailer.

The spare had been strapped down to the top of the cooler.  Fine for 5000 miles.  For whatever reason, it came loose and I must have run over it as I felt this sudden large bump!  Fortunately, it was just before an exit.  I quickly pulled off the Interstate, and inspected the whell.  Yep, it was flat.  A big gash in the side.... No problem, I'll just use the spare.  NOT.....As the spare was nowhere to be found!  The last exit was only two miles back, so I headed back East, then returned to the scene.  No tire.  Nada.  Ok, I'll back track even further....Not sure if it was the spare that caused the blowout....Perhaps I will be lucky and find the spare on the side of the road.  Next exit East was about 9 miles.  Backtracked again.  Still no tire......So I had to return to West Reno to Walmart and got a replacement.  There was a Harbor Freight but it was an additional 20 miles so not worth the 14.00 savings!!  Returned to the trailer, (glad it was still there)  and put the new tire on in about 4 minutes.  A very easy change.  And I didn't drop any lug nuts!!  Continued to Truckee.... A very cool old town....

Then soon found Squaw Valley..........Check out this house!!

And a very nice valley as well!!  (but I didn't find any Squaws...)

The torch is still burning!!

Headed South around the Lake and stopped at Emerald Bay for this image....

Fortunately they parking area had two 15 minute "free" spots.  Otherwise, they charge $10.00 just to park!!!  $@^$&%@%&&

A quick stop at the grocery for some food, and now at Big Meadow Campgroud, just off Luther Pass Road.....near Meyers, CA

Gordorad,

I'm not sure how long you are riding or if you have an flexability in your schedule but if you head south on 395 you need to take Tioga pass into Yosemite. This is my favvarite pass to go over from california. You'll have many opportunities to pull out the camera. Thanks for the pics.

The closet I got to getting in the lake was jumping over a bit of it to climb on the rocks to get the rock shot.  Clear and cold it is!!
