So Cal

« on: June 16, 2012, 01:37:08 PM »

I did not see it or heard it, but my neighbor did... I live on a very busy street.  Angry

About 4 hours ago as traffic is flying by under the shining sun, a guy made a u turn and pulled next to my driveway.
He then proceeded to roll my motorcycle trailer out to the street and was getting ready to hook it when my lady neighbor
saw what was happening. She ran to the street and confronted him. Undecided

She said the thief argued that he was supposed to tow it for a friend of mine.  tickedoff
So, she asked him for my name and he made one up on the spot, then proceeded with his attempt to take the trailer.  Angry

She then started to yell at him, which alerted my wife. By then the Dude had jumped on his White suburban and taken off.
With the commotion, my neighbor did not get a chance to write down or recall the license plate number.  Sad
When I finally went downstairs from my third story, the trailer's nose was already blocking the path way for pedestrians.  Embarrassed

I pulled it back up to its original location, wrapped a chain around the axle and trough the wheel and locked it
with a heavy duty pad lock.  Undecided

DESCRIPTION OF THIEF: White male, longish Blonde hair, Blue eyes, 6' - 6' 2" tall, Tattoos on both arms... Shocked
I said to myself, what has the world come to when White guys are stealing from illegal aliens in a White neighborhood! tickedoff 2funny

PS: I love L.A. and I am not buying a gun. Wink

Yes, don't buy a gun, just get more chains and locks. If this should happen again, you might shoot the wrong person in state of sleepy confusion if you have a gun.
Also, get your green card so you can ride to Tejas. LOL

Thank goodness for your neighbor.  You need to offer to take her to dinner.  The same story happened to one of my riding buddies last year, only he wasn't a lucky as you.

I had one of those once......the thing rusted out as quickly as if I'd dumped it in the gulf of mexico.  Had to cut it off to get it off of my trailer.  Went back to Lowes and got a Master lock trailer coupler lock.......like this one.....

 http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-379DAT-Universal-Trailer/dp/B000IIFQ26/ref=sr_1_7?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1339894756&sr=1-7&keywords=masterlock+trailer+coupler+lock

Lasted untill I sold the trailer and never rusted.

Hey!  I know that guy!

Smiley

I want to hear the 911 call personally!  Was your neighbor asked if the guy was was white, or did she just say "a guy is stealing my neighbors trailer, he's white".  Maybe ABC news or CNN edited the call when they reported the story to make your neighbor appear racist.    Grin

Glad you didn't lose your trailer! Unfortunately, this kind of stuff will get worse as long as the economy stays as flat as it is. People will always want what others have, and if they can't afford it legally, they will use other means.  Sad

You may want to reconsider the "gun" thing, since as this becomes more prevalent, the authorities won't be able to handle it all. Heck, they don't now, and never really did. Angry

The worst part is that your neighbor could have been hurt or killed by this scum bucket in order to get what he wanted, and to protect his identity. Hey, I'm not trying to be Chicken Little here, just stating what is a likely scenario.  Shocked tickedoff Cry

Dont get a gun if youre not comfortable with the idea. It wouldnt have helped in this case anyway.
Dont even know why the subject was broached.
1"x1"x2'. Applied liberally about the head and neck area would be safer.
Locks and chains, big dog, dinner and a movie for the neighbor.

Hello folks;
I just installed a trailer security GIZMO that some of you recommended.
This ONE: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/REE0/72783/N1544.oap?ck=Search_N1544_-1_-1&pt=N1544&ppt=C0237

The alternative suggested by others was equally desirable. So, as usual I flipped a coin and purchased the one shown above...
that's how err ... I walked like a lamb into this 40 year marriage... as it turns out I marry a great lady, a wonderful mother
and a superb "Nana."  Grin Cheesy   I'm a lucky man, indeed. cooldude

Thank you all for your comments. Smiley

PS: I also purchased a security clamp that hugs the tire and wheel in place, thereby minimizing the chances of theft.  Undecided Sad

Its a shame we have to take such precautions. I live rural in Az and have my stuff chained pretty good. Funny how paranoia works like that on ya.  I went away for a weekend and left the garage door open. I have old Fords and such and gobs of tools and cool stuff/junk. Nothin missing.
Still, I have the car, boat, camper trailer, gate chained. Big dogs, cameras, lights.
I work hard for my crap and I want to keep it, just like everybody else.

PS: I love L.A. and I am not buying a gun.

Glad your scooter is still your scooter.

And, I've got to add, your a far more forgiving guy than I am. I woulda been hiding somewhere around my bike for a week with big crazy eyes and a "chain saw".

And, I'm really not exaggerating by too much. When someone steals what you worked to own they are stealing the time it took you to earn what they stole.

If you worked 4 months to buy a valk and make it yours and someone steals it, it's the same as killing you 4 months before you would normally die. They stole that 4 months of life from you. The less you make per hour or week, they more of your life a thief steals when they steal something of equal value from you.

Thieves are the same as murders, only a thief steals a smaller part of your life than a murderer does.

I had to pass that on, it puts theft in a light I'd never considered.
