Clutch fiber plates

What should the thickness be on a fresh set of Honda OEM clutch plates, the fiber ones? Will they expand any after being soaked in oil?
I pulled the clutch on my 1999 Interstate and after 80,000 miles the used fiber plates has a thickness of 3.8mm. The new ones in the bag were 3.76mm. WTF?
I guess maybe it didn't need a new clutch after all. Well, at least I know how to do it now.
Just wondering

On automatic or powershift transmissions we used to always take a straight edge to the steel plates and check them for flatness. The frictions usuallyhave grooves in them to aid in getting debris away from the friction face, you may be able to gauge the wear by the condition of the grooves. Some of the transmission manufacturers want you to soak the frictions for several hours before assembling a clutch pack and setting the running clearances.
Just for general interest a lot of these discs are made using a adhesive that is water based - consequently this style of disc comes apart if they are exposed to any water, the friction material will come of the carrier.
