I have been to numerous events where they play the National Anthem.
On many occasions, there have been people who do not stand or are even texting or game playing on there phone. I have said something without causing a disturbance to others.
I have gotten all kinds of replies from them. I no citizen-don't care-so what -not good country-
mind you own buisness.  WELL, IT IS MY BUISNESS. I am an American and a Proud veteran.
We have been to many countries and we do not disrespect their system. We do not always like them, but it is there way.
Politically , this country is in deep do-do. But people still sneak in to live here. Makes you wonder why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree Prez, it bugs me when I see disrespect for either/both the flag and the national anthem. I was attending a function a few months ago where some jackass was carrying on a conversation on his cell, hat on, real loud, paying no attention to the anthem. Finally this huge Latin looking dude turned around and asked him if he never learned how to act during the national anthem. He apparently gave him a smart answer, because the guy in front gently told him that soon as it's over, he'll give him a free lesson. The loudmouth closed his cell, removed his hat and shut up. When the song was done and the band quit playing, he moved to another area of the bleachers. Many around us applauded, myself included.

Why shouldnt they feel free to NOT respect the flag or the National Anthem....even "president" Obama said he shows his patriotism in other ways besides putting his hand over his heart......and he wouldnt wear a flag pin for the longest time.  Michelle even said the famous words on you-tube and Obama nodded....."all this for a "bleepin" flag.

We need to turn the country around, the love of country and start to bless God with our principles again....oh, and ...

The president of the USA should set an example and he has not, in fact just the opposite.

It's no wonder that there is no respect any more.  Some of the current generation are empty headed and don't even have respect for themselves.  They are after material things to a greater extent than I've ever saw before.   Country means nothing to them..

There is a very long line of American Patriots that have gone before me and a line that will come after me to preserve FREEDOM. Anybody that has had the honor and privilege to serve in our armed forces understand this first hand. I'm not bragging nor complaining but you really DO NOT want to disrespect MY flag around me. As i'm writing this i can hear the flag on the front of my house snapping in the wind. At least once a day i've been known to salute the Stars and Stripes just to show the proper respect. I also know there are a lot of my brothers and sisters who gave up their lives for that very freedom. I've lost 2 family members and a couple of friends to war. So go ahead and disrespect the flag around me-you will NOT like the outcome. Sorry for the rant but that touches a sore spot with me. PEACE AND RIDE SAFE.

While I do feel that the President needs to set an example, I'm not following the other points in this thread.

If we are a free country, and folks have fought and died for this freedom, how can anyone tell another what is right and wrong with respect to how, or if, they CHOOSE to show patriotism?

I am no bleeding heart liberal and I detest US citizens, like Sean Penn and Obama, who only see what's wrong with America while shaking hands with Chavez.  But, I do believe in the freedoms bestowed upon us by our declaration of independence and our constitution.  THIS is what our soldiers have fought to protect.  Not the right to tell others how they should behave.  I recall a post by someone here who stated that people who don't take down there flag every night are not patriots.  Really?   uglystupid2

While we may not like what they say or do, we have to preserve their freedom as well.  When their's goes, our's are not far behind.

I agree with you G.... except IMO the vast majority of those who fail to render traditional and well established respect to the Flag and Anthem are not actively and thoughtfully exercising their Constitutional rights........... they are just self absorbed dicks.  Nothing wrong with reminding them of their shortcomings by way of shaming them in front of others.  If they actually claim constitutional considerations, then so be it.......... but I doubt that will be their response.

I could be wrong.

respect for your country shows respect for all who have sacrificed for this country. every service man and woman deserves the respect that we all should show the flag. unfortunately they have made it so our children don't need to respect anything. by 'they' you can take your pick and point out whoever you want, I know who I'd blame.

I will not stand for disrespect of the flag by my family or friends, but I cannot condone abuse of people who don't feel the way i do. i spent years in  the military defending my rights as well as the useless sacks of crap too.

Well said! I couldn't agree more.  This idea that patriotism is an absolute, where you can "measure" patriotism by how one acts, dresses, behaves, votes is a disturbing trend.  I have noticed (from both sides of the political spectrum) people saying if you do this/vote for that, you aren't an American, and other such nonsense.  As far as respect for the flag, I always stand for the Anthem, and fly a flag at the store I work, and it does bother me when people don't show respect, but I would never accuse them of being un-American.  While we are on the subject, personally, I think wearing/flying a confederate flag is not a Patriotic thing to do.

Go to the "Tomb Of The Unkown" in DC. You will see respect like no where else in the world. Quite the experience.

One time when my son was small, we were eating dinner at a local pizza place before a football game.  Small kids around here are always playing football beside the stands while game is going on.
I'm sure its not any different in your part of the country. ( Love Football Friday Nite )

Anyway I made sure to remind him that when the colored guard came on the field and they played the Anthem, to always STOP, Pay respects, toward the flag...etc..etc....
Any way an elderly gentleman and his wife I guess over heard me talking to Tanner. When we were done eating getting ready to leave he motioned me over and told me how much he appreciated what I was saying to Tanner reguarding the National Anthem.  He also commented on how the younger generation was inept in the showing respect dept. We talked for a little bit then I left

I'm sure glad of the way I was raised....!!!!
I'm 48 now that was prob. 15 yrs ago.

I also have had a hard time in the shopping malls and events to see mainly girls with an american flag sewn to the a$$ of their pants or shorts.
I judge friendship by this.  Would I trust you to go to battle with me , you do not have to fight, but will you watch my back!
Someone who would do this , I feel that they would sell me out.
my two cents again (before taxes )

There is a change in the country in general part of that change is the taking of God out of this country.  Even to the point of BC/AD is changed to B.C.E./C.E. psychologists have taken gays off the dsm with the excuse if it doesn't cause you any problem then its not a problem. They didn't feel they had the ability to judge if a person is a deviant or immoral. This is also going to include pedophiles and they are also trying to lower the age of consent to 12. Homosexual marriage being forced on the people by elected officials that could give a hoot if the people voted against it. The courts like wise, and congress not doing their job in putting a stop to all this insanity. Our society is changing rather than a nation whos base is the Bible to a nation of laws. We all see it in the handling of the economy crash along with how they are treating those like Jamie Diamond that we are all paying for that got the bail out and left the home owners high and dry. All the time they are not going to jail and they are allowed to do it again. Fathers thrown in jail for hitting their kids if it leaves any mark at all or even jailed for accusation of molestation. Kid calls the police arrests the father and the hell with the rest. So when you wonder why there is no respect and no justice and things are in a mess don't forget we are a secular society with man making the laws with no supervision kids have the same authority as parents and you still have to pay your taxes while immigrants get welfare and any number of special privileges. Oh I almost forgot Social Security nearly bankrupt by crooked politicians that should also be in jail for looting a fiduciary account. If there is no moral code then anything goes and its just about me nothing else.

I agree and have taught my daughter and son to show respect, but the freedoms that soldiers have fought for can't be compartmentalized into the ones we like and the ones we don't because whose likes do we hold in higher regards, yours? mine? theirs? Obama's? Romney's?  the priest's?  the rabbi's?  the imam's?  the king's?

Soldiers fought so that snot nosed kids can text during the national anthem and the law won't grab them up and throw them in prison or publicly stoned in the village square.  Yes, the kids father should smack the kid in the head and tell him to stand up and show respect, but the parent has the right to be a moron as well.  It is what it is.  We live in a permissive society.  Our laws are written this way.  Religion was an additional tool that was used to control people's behavior and I see a correlation between the decrease in religion to the increase in permissiveness.  I'm no holy roller, that's for sure (I'm of the George Carlin way of thinking), and this is just my opinion.

Yep, man's law verses God's way....well one can say what ever they like but it may very well be a mistake to think one won't have to eventually answer for so called blind ignorance.  As one removes that which is Good from their heart……What is left?  Sad thing, as well as the good thing, is that it doesn't have to be that way.

I salute our flag when appropriate and bow my head during prayers.  Although I am not a vet or religious, it is how I and my children were raised.  I am disgusted when adults and children do not show respect where respect is deserved.  However, it may be their "right" earned by those who have gone before.

Jack this is not aimed at you, it is but my thoughts based on your comment above.
I agree however I don't see it as their right.  That "right" was earned by those that fought for as well as those that gave their lives for this country.  I  personally believe one must earn it, showing a respect and appreciation for what we have, this great nation, and for those that gave their lives for our freedoms is a good start. You have to draw the line somewhere..... where is it going to be?

I'll not reveal here where I work, but let's just say when I started there 29 years ago it was a VERY conservative corporation.  Let me tell you, things have changed.  Today as I approached the gate at work, I noticed the Colors were at half mast, as they have been as we recently had some members of the state pay the ultimate price for our freedom.  What I also noticed was a rainbow flag flying below the Stars and Stripes.  I asked the security guard, "What flag is that flying below the US flag?"  He said, "It's the Gay Pride Flag, This is diversity week."  I said, "You have got to be Sh!tting me!"  What a total disregard for the sacrifice that soldier has made to attach such a controversial symbol to what is supposed to be a show of respect!  And all because the corporation realized how big a market the Gay/Lesbian community is and wants to pander to them.

Thankfully they got enough complaints and removed the rainbow flag, but I would like to know whose bright Idea it was to put it there in the first place?

I could care less if you are gay, hell, I'm a HUGE lesbian myself, but don't try to push that sh!t and your agenda as normal.  It may be to you, it is not to me, but if that's what blows your skirt up, have at it.

For me showing respect for the flag isn't about the flag at all................

It is about showing respect for these guys...........

They are the ones who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.

Therefore disrespecting the flag is disrespecting them, and that should not be tolerated.

Even by a total moron !
