A very large percent of them riding around with tank tops, shorts and thongs. For you young'uns, thongs are flip flops. And people give me crap for riding in shorts and tennis shoes. And what's with the ape hangers on a bike that has a fairing? Oh, and not to forget the flat black paint fad. (George, I like yours ) Just an observation. That's all. ??? I better sign off and get to bed...a few too many beers after a long day.

99% of all HD riders around me do not wear a helmet even riding 2-up doesn't matter whether young or old and 99% do not wear shorts but instead blue jeans/leathers/t-shirts. None wear thongs (sandals) although I sure bet quite a few of the ladies on board either wear the other type of thongs or no panties at all! I don't see a problem wearing shorts and tennis shoes and t-shirts since 99% of the time I wear them although I do wear a helmet 99% of the time. I understand the dilema I will be in if I ever go down with shorts not protecting me at all but willing to sacrifice safety for comfort. I also fully understand the heat when 90 out and above wearing shorts. I cannot without almost burning the hair off my legs ride for more than few minutes in stop and go traffic with my I/S having my legs on the footpegs. If I didn't have the upfront hwy. pegs to use, don't know how I could ever ride the I/S.

From what I've seen around here is that the Goldwing uniform is a white Polo shirt, khaki shorts, white sneakers, and a white helmet.

God forbid if ya go down, it is your bare hide being left on the pavement/asphalt. And dat smarts big time. I can loose enough hide in just falling down. I seem to always have a knee banged up, so I'll ride 2 wheels with jeans on, maybe a 'T' shirt.

Even in the heat, around here we seldom see any HD riders out of uniform (do-rag, black sleevless T and/or leather vest revealing one or more arm tatts, jeans, chain on wallet, boots, shades, pack of smokes in breast pocket of T, and 3-5 days growth of beard). Willing to put up with the heat for the fashion statement?
We trudge on.

I can't ride with my smokes in the breast pocket.......they blow out every time.....happened more than once the last time they hung there in front of me long enough for me to try and grab them and miss. Bought a tank bib with pocket and haven't lost my smokes sense

Ok I have to do this. All this talk about Pirates....
A pirate walks into a bar and he has a large ships steering wheel on his crotch.
The bartender stares at him and says "Hey, you got a steering wheel on your crotch"!
And the pirate replies "Yarrr, and it's drivin me nuts!"
Yarrrr.

I was reading on a H.D. forum (a sin?) and they actually spoke highly of a Valk. Not a Harley wannabe etc. One guy said he rides his wide glide with a Valk owner and can't keep up. Said with drag pipes they sound like an Indy car winding up. Also mentioned going over 300k miles routinely.

I must be an exception. I can't help it but I always ride with a yellow mesh jacket, a yellow modular helmet, sometimes an open face helmet, gloves, kevlar jeans, and boots.
I don't look at my reflection in store windows, I don't give a sh** what i look like, I don't care what my brothers in the wind think and I'm free to do as I please.
I know if I fall off, I'm going to be one big bruise but I don't want to add addled brains and third degree burns (road rash) to my problems.
I hafta admit, I don't ride to work any more and I get to pick my riding days, so I can see why most others have different ideas on riding gear.
Ride Safe.

I wear MOTGMOTT.
Always... helmet and gloves.
Almost always... Joe Rocket Phoenix Jacket.
Mostly always... Jeans and Red Wing Boots.
Sometimes I ride home from the gym in gym shoes and shorts... but I still wear the Helmet, gloves and jacket.

Whatever it is, it's better in the wind.
On a road less traveled.

+1 Wayne, I am with you, I'd rather be bruised than hamburger, I once was one to ride with only a t-shirt, always helmet, jeans and boots, but watching others leave their skin and muscle on the road made me a believer in helmet, jacket, jeans and boots, I am guilty of wearing fingerless gloves in the summer months. And if you wear a mesch jacket you can always turn on the A/C just soak your t-shirt then put on your jacket and get in the wind, works great.

Maybe this is why the HD riders are dressing as you described Here is the deal on heat problems and Harley's. Beginning in 2010 all new Harley's have a cataletic converter in the head pipe. It gets so hot you can't hardly stand it during hot weather. Due to Government emission regulations the bikes are running very lien and then adding the cat pretty much was the straw that broke the camels back. Many riders including myself have removed the cat for some heat relief. To really cool it down some type of fuel management system needs to be installed.I have not done that yet but prices run from about $400.00 to $1000.00.
