Work sucks _Let's ride

Was at a bikeshop in Beckley W.Va. and talked with a guy on a 1982-1984 kaw 1000 police bike . They were just finishing up his bike ...some carb issue...He had just completed a 3000 mile ride-race from the desert of Ca. to the coast at Sacramenta---to Rockinham NC . said he finished in the 4th fastest time . 49 hours .
Some cool things thou not for me...was he had to make his bike into a rigid by struting the rear suspension , removing the rubber engine mounts ,no windshields or fairing allowed . He had an extra 2.5 gallon tank mounted where the rear seat used to be , had mounted an old school seat with 3 inch springs to ride on ,said no attached saddlebags were allowed .
Talking about "HARDCORE"  wow...he was very proud of his Hardass patch ,to get the patch he said that you had to arrive within 55 hours of your leave time .

In 1949 I rode 1600 miles in six days on a hardass Matchless thumper.  BRP, etc.  Not even close for any award. I did it because I had no choice, that was all that I coukld afford.  People are nuts today.!

I couldn't go around the block on that today, neither would i want to. Grin

If you have any pictures of the BRP leg of that 1949 trip I would love to have a copy of them.

Most all of the few pics were lost due to moving.  Here is one taken in Kentucky.  Both of us rode Matchless thumpers.  Cardboard suitcases held our gear.

Here is a pic of a 1946 Matchless just like mine. A hard tail.  Mine had a sheepskin seat cover and a windshield
