It's now a felony to protest anywhere that the secret service is protecting the president or around anyone he assigns secret service protection.

Just another basic constitutional right denied. The new HR 347 bill gives the president the power to have anyone arrested and charged with a felony for vocally objecting to his policies.

This post was not meant to be an Obama bash.  I would be against this regardless of who was president.  I realize it is hard to regulate, but protesters need to have their voices heard.  They need to protest in a respectful manor, avoiding vile and disrespectful acts while doing so.  To me, cursing obsenities to the president should be illegal.  But simply saying "I oppose Obamacare" should not.

I'm not shouldering this folly on Obama.  It's a House of Reps bill (who is controlled by the Republicans).

If this bill was in fact signed into law, any and all persons who voted for it are to blame. Security can and should take care of idiots bent on disrupting events. Politicians should not keep assaulting our rights. We've turned into the "ruling Class' along with the useful idiots who support them regardless of thinking about what's being said. Then there's the rest of us who are bound and determined to vote according to facts, logic and common sense.

And many balk at me as I declare over and over (and have signed all the petitions I can find) that we need to IMPEACH OBAMA

What does he need to do next, declare martial law indefinelty and imprision anyone that says the words  "IMPEACH OBAMA" or anything else against his socialistic/marxist policies??

When will America Wake up......soon it will be too late  Embarrassed Undecided Cry

If this isint a blatant smack down of the constitution and an illegal over use of Presidential power I hate to think what he has to do to for Americans to believe hes at that point.  If the "president" isint confronted on this and stopped the next time it will be a bigger bite and then a bigger bite until we no longer have a Constitution and a Bill of rights.......Rights? what are rights if they can be just wiped off the books with a stroke of the pen and nothing is said or done about it???

Impeach Obama, Holder, Pelosi, Ried and anyone that voted for this unlawful bill

Sorry folks, you might want to read the bill.  it doesn't stop you from protesting, it stops you from tresspassing in a restricted area as defined by the bill.  It does change what constitutes when the Secret Service can have you arrested from "knowing and willing" to "knowing" you are illegally tresspassing in a restricted space.

It is an update to a Law passes in 1971. OBTW, it's less that 2 pages long.  Simple read.

You might want to read the bill.  It doesn't take away you freedom of speech.  It restrict you from tresspassing a restricted space as determined by the government.  It does loosen the requirement for the Secret Service from "knowingly and willfully" tresspassing to "knowingly" that it's illegal to tresspass a restricted space.

OBTW, this is an update to a law passed in 1971. There has always been a restricted space around the president for their protection. Sorry this isn't an Obama thing.

You might take the time to research it.  Knowledge is power.

Here it is in PDF format... if you put hr 347 in google, it is the first thing that comes up, the nest
ones talk about how hr 347 amounts to a minor change in laws that have existed for decades...

H.R. 347 did make one noteworthy change, which may make it easier for the Secret Service to overuse or misuse the statute to arrest lawful protesters.

Without getting too much into the weeds, most crimes require the government to prove a certain state of mind. Under the original language of the law, you had to act "willfully and knowingly" when committing the crime. In short, you had to know your conduct was illegal. Under H.R. 347, you will simply need to act "knowingly," which here would mean that you know you're in a restricted area, but not necessarily that you're committing a crime.

Any time the government lowers the intent requirement, it makes it easier for a prosecutor to prove her case, and it gives law enforcement more discretion when enforcing the law. To be sure, this is of concern to the ACLU. We will monitor the implementation of H.R. 347 for any abuse or misuse.

Also, while H.R. 347, on its own, is only of incremental importance, it could be misused as part of a larger move by the Secret Service and others to suppress lawful protest by relegating it to particular locations at a public event. These "free speech zones" are frequently used to target certain viewpoints or to keep protesters away from the cameras. Although H.R. 347 doesn't directly address free speech zones, it is part of the set of laws that make this conduct possible, and should be seen in this context.

That would mean replacing the 99 Senators and the vast majority of the House.  I heard about this a couple of months ago.

If you had read my second post, you'd see I put in a healthy disclamer on this being Obama's fault.  I would not be for this law even if George Washington were the president.  BTW, If GW were the sitting pres, I doubt he would approve of the bill.  I think he incouraged political dissention, and would have respected their right to protest.

It appears to me, that under this law the government can declare a football stadium a restricted area and can arrest any protester in it.  Y'all can stop defending your dear Obama, I'm not attacking him personally.  I'm only opposed to additional restrictions to peaceful protest, REGARDLESS WHO'S PRESIDENT.

I almost forgot:  If you are passing out coolaid, I'll take whatever kind you have that goes well with baseball, apple pie & Chevrolets.

Actually I like to mix the grape with the cherry, ether one by itself leaves a bad aftertaste. Beers better with baseball though. coolsmiley cooldude

How about a Ford instead of the Chevrolets. Since the government took over and screwed so many people I'd rather not touch another GM product.
