I left my company I.D., company cell phone and company keys on the desk this morning about an hour ago. Burning some vacation days for awhile. When those run out, I'm done. Thirty-eight years. Retired.   Cool

Retired from doing what, may I ask?

State Dept. of Transportation, aka Caltrans. Highway maintenance. Equipment operator by trade. Worked up through the ranks of supervision and beyond. Last five years a blue collar analyst/bean counter managing a $40M operating budget for "maintenance" for "this" area of the state.

The attached factoid is out dated. The body count is closer to 70. We lost three in a three month period in 2011. A couple others in 2010. One on Thanksgiving day by a drunk driver.

Fantastic. I did the same thing over eight yrs. ago when I retired from the State of Fla., took some time as days off, the rest moved over to my Deferred Comp. fund. Retirement....highly recommended. Now you'll wonder how you ever had enough time left over to go to work.  cooldude

I swear I thought that said "thirty-eight years OLD. Retired."

You would have been my hero... I envy you and your newfound freedom nonetheless Wink

congrats and enjoy life since you now have some free time.  My dad retired early at age 55 due to health issues (spinal cord) and he said he always wanted to travel to see his relatives, etc.  He never got around to doing that and I think regretted not traveling.   My mother in law is just the opposite been everywhere but she's got the money to spare, too bad she never invites us to go along.   Embarrassed

Congrats on walking out.  I did that on 01/03/09, after 40 years with the Fed Gov.  Handed in my keys/ID, Said have fun, and left.  Never looked back.   It was a great, still is.  I can ride when the weather is good, not just on the weekends.  If I don't feel like doing anything, can just sit back and goof off.
