Strange noise/vibration at idle in neutral?
«

Today I noticed for the first time a low grinding/rattling/vibration noise when my Interstate with 23K miles is sitting at idle in neutral. You can even feel the low vibration in the bars. When you pull the clutch lever in, it totally stops and vibration goes away. Let it out and it starts again. This is the first time I have ever noticed this before. Anybody have this happen to them or know what this might be?
Thanks.

The hydraulic slave cylinder has a push pin to depress and release pressure on the clutch. This pin has caused some issues like you describe. Remove the slave cylinder and pull the pin out. Clean and lube with waterproof grease. Reinstall and see if that helps.

Nothing to be alarmed about. It's just the gears spinning in neutral when you let the clutch out.

Great question and responses. Sometimes I notice the same thing. More so in really hot weather.
Thank You,
Mark

We have been running 100+ degree days where I live and coincidently that is when I noticed it.

Try changing the oil.....brand and viscosity.
