98 standard;temp indicator light quit working.does not come on when key is turned on.can anyone point me in the right direction.all pointers,tips & info greatly appreciated. thanks

The temperature light is only on when the bike overheats, it does not normally come on when you turn on the key. Hoser

Thanks, I meant to ask about that. The oil light comes on and the stand light, if it is down, but not the temp light.

Your post indicates that the light use to come on with the key.. Huumm, regardless,, Hoser is right..

If you're want to check to see if the indicator light is working, you should be able to disconnect the temperature sensor at the sensor, and then short the temperature lead to ground. Grounding the lead should cause the indicator light to come on.

I thought the service manual says that it will come on for one or two seconds when the key is turned on. There is a good diagnostic checklist on case it does not come on. It might be 97, 98 only.
