Baffled,
There were aftermarket available, I believe those sources have dried up. I have used both and currently have the neoprene. I like the stockers better. Just my personal opinion, I'm sure others will say otherwise.
 Here's the link for the stockers...only $33.00, can't go wrong. ???

I just installed a set I got from my local Honda dealer. $42, but it took three days for him to get them. It feels like it makes a difference.

Those aren't things that normally go bad.

Pretty east to inspect when the wheel is off.

They will have some engineered slop in the fit with the wheel to allow for the star to insert.

A good look at is all that's necessary.

You'll be able to see easily if they are bad, or not.

I do, too.  I've never ridden with the harder compound dampers, but firmly believe the role of the damper is to absorb driveline lash, not transfer it to other, more costly parts.

Sure they do.  Whether from time, miles, abuse, or a combination, we've replaced a number of sets down here.  I replaced mine at 12 years and 38,6XX miles.  If yours are loose in their pockets, you will feel a significant reduction in lash upon replacement.  Mine were and I did.  My initial reaction was that it seemed like my right wrist was directly connected with the rear tire's contact patch.

If yours have anything close to slop, you will notice a big difference installing new ones.  Old ones will fall out.  New ones are quite snug and will have to be persuaded to fit in their pockets.

always order the I/S dampers. they are one piece and seem to last a little longer as they do not develop slop between the inner block and the cushion only shrinkage from the outside.

When I look them up for a 1999 it shows the same part number for all models. Is there another part number for different years on the Interstate?

I/S are the same , early standards and tourers used an inferior 2 piece design.

Part 06410-MAH-A60 is the two-piece version to avoid.

Use 06410-MBH-000.  It is one-piece and fits all years/models.

[/quote]  That is perzackly what i did to get mine in easy. I have a big upright freezer in my garage which(the garage)houses my fat lady. Wink I'm just guessing here but i believe the ones i removed were the originals-60818 miles and a little over 13 years old. coolsmiley There is a marked difference from the old ones to the new ones-way better. cooldude And it feels just like my right hand goes to the tire contact patch. cooldude RIDE SAFE.
