Some things just don,t look right.
Look at the side covers, they should be black.
Reproduction bag rails. Would take a close look first.

Just by price alone, and only one picture... I could (do) suspect something wrong.  The side covers or reproduction rails should not be an issue..... look at half the bikes of the owners here.   None of which, by the way, would be willing to sell their IS for 5k I don't think.     But.... being it's local, I'm willing to check it out and looking to get it....  in person and after a look see.  I already have visions of it being my Solo Set Up Valk..... (I have the solo bib and rack already).    Keeping fingers crossed it's on the up and up..... and I get a call.....  but for some reason I'm not real hopeful.

Wow, that is cheap. Has some extras to. May be salvage title? I just paid almost double that for mine. May just be one of those once in a lifetime finds? The guy must not know about Ebay because if everything is legit, it would bring way more than that in an auction.

He painted the side covers but the bag rails are not reproductions.  Those are MCE bag rails.

Going to look at it tomorrow if all works out.  The owner had it for five years and bought it off a salvage yard and it has an R (Reconstructed) Title.  Only rear fender tins replaced so he stated. I asked if it has any other damage and he claims no.  We shall see.  He now knows I have a Valkyrie as well so it should be obvious I will be giving it a thorough look over.  I did not yet ask about the side covers.  He said he had pics of it after the accident when he bought it and after he replaced body panels.  New calipers, recent tires and will be getting it inspected for the year this week.

We shall see......

Wow.... let me start by saying "pictures can be/are very deceiving".....  and that is why I won't buy a vehicle on Ebay.

First off....  It does start and run pretty good from what I could tell.  I did take it for a ride, but it didn't have plates on or a current state inspection (said that will be done this week).  Acceleration, clutch and transmission seemed fine, but it was loose in the back and brakes were very bad.

BUT-
-  it does have a Reconstructed Title for a rear end accident.
-  the mileage is 68000 (not 36000).  Little bit of dyslexia maybe.
-  the PODS are not on, but he did have them on the porch. did not appear damaged.
-  outside storage is evident with rust and fading overall.
-  both saddle bags  remain cracked and damaged on the inside rear corners and the inside of the bags.
-  both bag lids appear to have some damage and cracks, are not connected to the bag ties and as a result he lost a lid, but recovered it and had it halfway repaired so the latch is epoxied to the lid (evident inside and out).
-  no fork leakage detected, but the front fender is tweaked and off center.
-  the fairing shows signs of repair (paint runs) and is cracked/damaged on the left side
-  the engine guards on the right side have significant slide marks in the lower corner (worn flat)
-  the engine show signs of an oil leak below the intake tubes on the heads.
-  windshield was replaced but the fairing deflectors appear to have mold spots, fading and cracking check marks.
-  gauges and instrument indicator are faded and shows signs of severe weather cracking and check marks
-  front brakes (even tho new pads) are poor, rotors are worn badly.
-  rear brakes (even tho new pads and what appears to be a fairly new rotor) are basically non existent.
-  rear end trunk/bag/fender brackets appear to be worn and very loose.  Rear fender was replaced when damaged but the license plate and signal indicator assembly is bent/damaged.
-  shocks appear to be on opposite sides (adjustment arrow is behind bags not in front.
-  bike leans significantly on the side stand, much more so than mine, and is a biotch to get up.
-  wheels were stained, appeared to have mold spots, very dirty.
-  engine oil was fine, but the hydraulics were in a need of changing (or addition of cream to the coffee).
-  missing bolts/rust on chrome side covers.
-  side covers have broken tabs and cracks (are loose).  I did find a grommet on the ground and gave it to him and he said that was an old one (meaning he replaced them??)
-  dented tank top left where it appears bars hit possibly during the accident years ago.  he never noticed it and I did on the ride.
-  rear exhaust damage and chrome side shields are loose at some weld spots.
-  mirrors are aftermarket and much higher than stock.

There were some other issues I may have missed mentioning and will add when I think of them.  It is definitely a project bike.  I made an offer and we were very close to closing the deal but I wanted to take the test ride before I confirmed my offer.  Upon return from the ride I adjusted a couple hundred for some issues I didn't notice before the ride.  He intends to think it over, and until after the state inspection tomorrow maybe.  If it's not a "lick and stick" inspection, it probably won't pass just on brakes alone, even tho he replaced the pads.

It would be a project bike and ultimately my Rat Rod Solo Rider SuperValk,..... which means the trunk would go... and Tank, the trunk was good but the rack had the chrome almost polished off down to the copper plate, and there was some rust (removable I think) on some of the chrome under rails.

If he doesn't want to close the deal tomorrow after inspection, I will move on..... he might want to see if someone else will make a higher offer.  we shall see
