the country with the highest murder rate by firearm? South Africa.  we're in the top ten (actually number 4) BUT  Shocked look who is number 6!  Lips Sealed a country with VERY stringent gun control laws. hmmm let that marinate for a spell. (compiled from the united nations: the 8th united nations survey on crime trends)

Interesting.  I wonder why they did the ranking by raw numbers rather than per capita?  Seems like per capita would have been more telling.

I did a quick and dirty and of the top 7 they show, their rankings change as follows:

Gun Homicides: 1 for every

South Africa    1,535
Columbia        2,103
Slovenia         2,311
Thailand         3,330
Philipines      13,211
USA              33,270
Mexico          43,106

you'd think Mexico would be high, Juarez was the murder capital of the world last year 7 murders a day. and this is from a country that doesn't allow private ownership of guns.

get your hands on a gun down there and you can rob anyone you want ('cept the cartels)

Guns don't kill,,people do.

Doctors by statistics kill way more people than guns.

A point SmokinJoe drives home with regularity.

Check it out it's true.

Issue Guns to the residents and qualify them, and watch the rate drop like a rock.

A gunman will think twice if does not know his victim is going to shoot back or not.

I've always taken that as more of a tongue in cheek joke but:

Doctors vs. Guns

contributed by John 2005

    Doctors:

The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000

Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000

Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171

Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health Human Services.

    Guns:

The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000

The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500

The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.

    Statistics courtesy of F.B.I.

Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor.

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat immediatly. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!

Note: Out of concern for the public at large, the statistics on lawyers have been withheld for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.
