A friend of mine that I found out turned into one of them animal rights activist types, you know they wont eat anything that has a face.....
Anyway he said to me...
"If you really loved animals like you say, you wouldnt eat them!"
I turned to my friend and said...
"If you really loved animals like you say, you wouldnt eat THEIR FOOD!"

Ha! That's awesome. Something I think about frequently is that "death by hunter" is about the easiest death that could come to most wild animals. That's not to say that myself and other hunters don't occasionally "botch a shot". I know I have and that kind of thing keeps a hunter up at night, as it should. But it doesn't happen often.
I've found deer who have run into a fence at night, pulled it off several posts, and died wrapped in it with a wire pulled tight into their mouth, cutting way back into it's face and removing several teeth. Then it was eaten by coyotes, doubtless, while still alive to begin with.
One of my sons found a large buck, dead, hit by a car with all four legs broken and flapping by the skin. It was down in a low spot and there was evidence everywhere of it trying to climb out and driving it's leg bones deeply into the dirt in it's efforts.
Bucks have been found starved with their antlers stuck in a tree. Bucks have been found with one still barely alive dragging a dead buck around with their antlers stuck together. I've seen does hit by cars running with one leg just held on by a little skin. Death by hunter is about the easiest death they are likely to encounter.
And generally it's a far easier death than most of us will face. Like it or not, our deaths sometimes drag out for years.

I was reading an article in National Geographic a couple of years ago about how people spread out over the globe out of Africa. They used genetic tags sampled from all nationalities to trace exactly how the population spread. One comment I thought was interesting was that they attributed the relative speed of the expansion to the fact that people ate meat. If you only eat plants, it takes a long time to figure out which ones you can eat and which ones will kill you and thus a long time to get acclimated to new territory. If you eat meat, you let the animals figure out which plants to eat, and you eat the animals.
A couple of things I gathered from this: 1. If we were vegetarians we'd probably still be in Africa 2. We are all African-Americans, it just a matter of how far you want to go back.
