I know it has been discussed before, but been looking for a .22 caliber handgun for some cheap plinking.  I came across this S&W and liked the feel and weight of this handgun.  Wondering if anyone has this model and likes/dislikes?  The price is right around 250 bucks tops at a dealer and can even add a red dot sight on top for even more accuracy.  The rubber grips are very comfy and from reviews, pretty reliable with few jams and easy to take apart and clean.  I think it even has a lifetime warranty but guessing would have to pay for shipping back to mfg. though.

Gander Mountain has this same version also and said they even runs sales down to 230 bucks at times:

I know ruger handguns are good but I like the longer 5 1/2" barrel design being heavier and longer plus the price under 250 bucks is hard to beat with rugers over 300 bucks.

Any thoughts on this smith and wesson from users?

Shooting .22s is fun, but they go fast... and reloading the mags over and over can be a PITA at times.  Have you considered a revolver?  Taurus makes some nice .22 revolvers (not sure I'd recommend their SA's tho).

I have Ruger Semi Auto .22s. a Walther P22, and a Taurus .22 Revolver, no experience with that model.... but if you do get it... provide some feed back on it.

Good luck....

I have one, some have commented  about misfires, I have had a few misfires in the many rounds that I have cycled through the pistol.  I am of the opinion that it may be the quality of the rounds, but really enjoy the plinking and the inexpensive entertainment.  Ruger are very good but a little more costly.  Just my two cents.

Take a look at the German Sport Group GSG 1911-22.  Semi Auto, lots of fun and not expensive to shoot.

I have one.  Good pistol, IMO.  Has a good balance & feel.  No misfires since I shot up the old, crappy ammo I had left over from 30+ years ago.  Will only take .22 LR.  .22 Longs won't feed from the mag.

My preference in 22 handguns tends towards revolvers, like this S&W model 18-3. They are usually more expensive but an absolute blast to plink with.

I had one it shot great put was very fussy on the ammo it would feed reliably. I just got fed up with it and traded it for another 22 rifle. May have just needed some polishing but I lost my interest in it. only ammo I found that would jam in it was cci wich is kinda spendy for plinking.

I bought one last month, The first day I shot it everything worked great. But the next few times I had miss fires and it wouldn't cycle the missed fired round out. I sent it back to S&W yesterday and they said they would take care of it. I have read reviews of people who have put 15,000 rounds threw them with no problem so hopefully they will get it right. I have tried all kinds of ammo including CCI mini mags and it made no difference.  If I were to buy another one I would buy the Ruger. About a $100.00 bucks more but I have friends with them and they shoot forever with no problems.
