Ride Safe, Be Kind

I had Kury highway pegs for a while and I got tired of the gynocoligist riding position so I traded them for a set of used Cobra floorboards.  Nifty except now I have no highway pegs. Hmm... Not wanting to spend any money I decided to make my own.

First I measured and determined that the best position for me is about six inches out fron the center of this bolt

No to survey my vast backyard empire for parts.  The passenger peg mounts from this derelict 1982 Yamaha 750 Virago looked like good candidates.

I scrounged up some aluminum bar stock for spacers

Measured them up (2 inches was perfect)

Drilled them out

Cut them to length

Polished them with some white rouge

Then I put it all together with longer and stronger bolts and slipped the stock Valkyrie passenger pegs in.  Perfect!  Comfortable, functional and cheap.

Looks like they ought to work out pretty well!

I had an 81 750 virago.  Put a lot of miles on it, had a lot of fun, and a lot of it was 2 up, though I wasn't even married!!!

Seems like I used to complain about gas mileage or range.  Filled up every 100 miles or so, probably a couple of gallons.   I dropped that bike more times than I can remember creeping thru places where we teenagers and young adults hung out.  I didn't have a cup holder, but always managed to go thru the Dairy Queen and get a Coke.

Good times and memories.....  All from a highway peg post!

The floorboards hit before the pegs do.

Yah, but the cobra driver's floorboards do fold up some when touching the pavement some where as your very nice modded outfront pegs do not fold up.  I doubt you would lean into a corner that far, but just be careful.

How short is too short?  I am only 5'10" and use my similar designed cobra floorboards on my engine hwy. crash bar more upfront no problems reaching and even with my legs bent some feels very comfortable.  I like this riding position since those higher more upfront floorboards keep my entire legs and feet on top of and in front of the very hot engine especially riding with shorts on with these 100 degree temps.  Those stock driver's floorboards behind the engine cooks my legs and feet terribly in this heat and couldn't ride very long without the most useful option to me being upfront hwy. riding boards.

It's hard to tell in the pics, but these pegs do fold all the way up.  I'm 5-9 and I found that pegs any farther forward tend to make the seat cut me under the thigh.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

My Kury's are mounted under there on the crash bar. They drag in curves but fold up nice. Never a problem.
