Just curious, with people looking for final drive units what is different on the GOLDWING GL1500 Final Drive from the Valk??? Being new to the Valkyrie I just figured they were the same, I'm guessing they are not...

The final drive housing is cast different as the shock mounts are at slightly different angles.

It also won't bolt up to our swingarm.

The guts are interchangeble though.

I knew someone here would know.  Is it possible to use the whole swingarm then?   I don't have a problem with mine, but wondered if it would be an option for others here because there are so many wings out there.

I'm not so sure all the stuff inside (guts) is interchangeable.

It's not. I attempted to use parts from a GW Final in the Valk. The ring gear & pinion are different. The driven flange is the same, perhaps some of the bearings, but the parts most need, are not. Different part #'s, different bearing sizes on the ring gear.

Interesting.  When one of the guys around here had his go out, they cross referenced the ring gear and pinion to the 1500 Gold Wing rear end.

I do know that the drive flange cup and the driven star hub are the same because we've used those parts from a Wing rear drive to rehabilitate a Valk rear drive.

I wonder if the GW parts, if not interchangeable, would still fit correctly in the Valk case?  In other words, could you just take all the GW parts and transfer them.

That's good to know.  I should have said that the spline cup and star hub are interchangeable.

Chris, I hadn't looked up part numbers when trying to repair a bud's Valk. They looked the same from the outside, same number of teeth etc. (I had a final drive from a 94 wing that I was wrecking out). Took them apart, discovered the pilot (back side of the teeth on the ring gear) that fits into a bearing in the case, was smaller on the wing final.

That's when this dummy decided to look up part numbers. The 94 wing had the same numbers as all GL1500 wings, so they didn't change as I thought they might have in 97. But, we lucked out and found a valk final here local.

And on the swing arm, the GW drive shaft is longer...
