I just installed an Austone Taxi Tre on my '99 IS. Started at 38 psi and just upped it to 40 after my first 200 mi ride. Prior to this I was running a Yokahama P205/60R16 that I got 21,000 miles out of. It was just starting to show the wear bars when I changed it. My impression so far:
ATT has a slight wobble at low speed (accelerating from stop) and feels less stable on grooved pavement. (This may be due to under-inflation, I haven't rode it since upping the pressure).
ATT is about an inch taller than the tire I removed, so the bike leans over farther on the side stand.
ATT has almost no bump steer.
ATT seems fine in the TWISTIES of Michigan (yeah, I know, what twisties?)
ATT resulted in ~200 rpm decrease in engine speed @ 80 mph.
What have the rest of you noticed?

I was with Dub's the day his bike came unglued at about 100 mph and the tank slap just about got him I was leading and did'nt see it but Big Al saw everything...My bet as to why this happened is the taxi tire

I am running 40 psi in the ATT, not getting any wobble at start, in fact smooth at all speeds. Corners good, no bump steer. Have about 2000 miles on mine, like it just fine.

Thanks Grumpy, I'll have to try it with the increased pressure. By the way, you make great exhaust tips.

Thanks, I seemed to notice that the bike had a little wandering feeling at 70 to 80 mph with the lower pressure, after bringing it up to 40 psi, that went away. But that could have just been the super slab around here, they keep repaving I-75 and moving lanes around, lots of height changes in the road surface.

Guys if it matters the Austone measures out to actually be a 78 series tire more so then a 75 so yah its tall. The R* guys are bumping the psi way up some are as high as 55 psi already. To stiffen up an already stiff tire.

I just wanted to bump this back up as most info is now several years old. I put on an Austone yesterday and wondered what you guys were running for tire pressure.

On my second one. I run 40-42 depending on load. No shimmy ever at any speed, even above triple digits. Great handling characteristics all around. Using Progressive HD 13" 444s.
Joe, I emailed Dubs a couple years ago about that, he sounded sure that incident wasn't because of the Austone. Maybe he'll see this and chime in.

I run 45psi. Was having a slight wobble starting around 90mph that got worse the faster I went.
I saw a discussion of this on a Goldwing site where they were talking about the tread width to sidewall height ratio and talked about higher pressures needed to stabilize the tire at high speed. The max cold on the tire is like 60-65 psi. I bumped up the pressure based on their recommendations and the wobble went away. Have run 120 mph indicated for five miles and was smooth as silk. Have over 12k miles on it now with no uneven wear. The tire is rated for a lot of weight which we don't even come close too.
I like the tire. It rides good, handles great and I can rip the pegs off in the twisties with full confidence.

I'm on my second taxi tire. On the first one, I started out with 40 PSI. It felt great and I said that's my pressure. Then I decided to try 36 just to see how it felt and it felt great too with a little softer ride. I left it at 36. I don't run triple digits so I can't comment on higher speeds.

What size ATT to replace the stock sizeT
I don't care about the 200 rpm gain.

i'm not ready for a new rear tire yet but i like the idea of 200 fewer rpm's at highway speed, shouldn't affect the performance of the bike much and could help with fuel economy...

I have been running on the ATT this season at 37 PSI. I was looking for a more comfortable ride than the MT at 44 PSI provided. However, I do experience a wobble at 90-95 MPH, so I no longer go there...

There is only one size. I believe it is 180R16, I no longer have one so I can't check. But if you go to order one, their is only one size.

I have about 6000 miles on mine at 42 psi. Slight bump steer. NO wobbles at any speed. Supreme confidence in this tire. By the way, I would REALLY like to say that whenever you change tires, be sure to replace your old valve stem with a new one, as well as lubing your splines. Valve stem. Did I mention the valve stem?

I just had to do that on my new to me 98 on this years FCR ride in Robbinsville. Had a slow leak, rear tire. Luckily not a catastrophic leak. One of the other riders, Gordon - Lucky 13 - had a spare with him because he knew of the problem. A local independent shop took care of it for me last Friday evening. JUST DO IT THE NEXT TIME YOU FIT A NEW TIRE. https://www.jakewilson.com/p/1753/19082/Myers-90%C2%B0-Tubeless-Chrome-Valve-Stem
