I had mentioned these pics in another thread, finally was able to access them. The bike was extremely low mileage and very mint. And yeah, the owners riding apparel kinda sucks.

They used to pop up on ebay regular at around 5 grand. Just checked and there's only one and it's twice that.

The CBX was easily my favorite bike of the time period.  Well really, it's one of my favorites of all time.

I wasn't quite old enough to remember them in 1979, but by reading the description of the link of the one on ebay,  11.50 second 1/4 mile dragstrip runs at 117 mph is pretty impressive.  Would beat our Valks for sure I would think well ahead of it's time.

Earliest memory when got into cycles was in the early 80's with the impressive Honda V65 magna, nice bike, would keep right up with the 1979 6 cylinder Honda.

A friend of mine bought one new and still had it when I retired in 88. It still looked like brand new then.  He sold it when his wife was having some serious medical problems.. I never had the cajones to ride it, lol.

Yeah, that should beat a Valk. I think the fastest stock time I remember seeing for a Valk was like 12.01 @ 110mph.

An 1100 Magna would be a little faster than a CBX though. I think those will do mid 10 seconds quarters at 120 mph.

It looks like the handling would be iffy, but then again maybe not. The center of gravity would be very low, which is good. Not sure about the width though.

I think the CBX has a trait that really attracted me to the Valk though...when you look at either one, the thought that comes to mind is "Damn look at that engine!"

And that red one sure is pretty. Pretty expensive and pretty good looking.

I have a friend who owns two of them, he did a dyno run on one of them, 92 hp at about a million rpm.  1000 cc motor with twin cams an itty bitty pistons.  6 into one header, screams like a banshee!  He's got one of these too, CBR 1100, 1982.  He let me sit on it,  I didn't ride it.  too rare and valuable fror me!  Hoser

i was just gonna say, dont forget about the KZ-1300 Kawasaki, I bought the Kawasaki because it would smoke the CBX.. only one problem, it would light up the rear tire at 50MPH just twisting the throttle,,almost got me killed, it had more engine than stopping power..
sold the KZ and bought a GL-1000 that was i think in 76...

A Z1300 nearly killed me twice!! A mate of mine had one back in the 80's, I was riding pillion. He had just changed the front brake pads, pushed the calipers over the discs, got distracted and never put any bolts in, off we went up the road and both calipers fell off crazy2 scared the life out of me..

Another time I was on the back of the same bike and he pulled away from the lights so fast I fell off the back, road rash all down my back......

We were young (18), ya know...always promised him I'd thorw him off the back of my bike before we were both 40...had a crate of beer on it, I never did do it..... Cry
