I usually am pretty consistent about checking my bike. I had it on the lift going to check the tires and I found this. Thank fully I had all ready ordered a new tire to be changed later. This scared me, thinking about running to Eureka Springs on this would not be good. Not cut, coming apart in the seam. Has a new one on it now.

Oh god... and that's not a rear tire on the front, or a car tire or ANYTHING!!! Kidding man. Glad you caught it. Always do a walk around. I told a guy on an 1800 VTX this AM that he didn't have any tail lights. He thanked me... then tried to race me. He didn't do bad... but I out rode him. He had "LOOK AT ME" pipes on it too. that probably didn't help him any. Jabba

That's too bad. Looks like you still had a lot of miles on that tire guaging by the tread.

Yep, I will be bitching at Avon, had one several years ago start to come apart the same way. Was a rear tire and they made it good.

... good advice by all. Navigator's responsibility every morning was to check the tires as I rolled backward. She found a screw through the back tire in Key Largo on our way home from Key West. It always takes a second person unless you continuously dismount after a partial rotation and check both tires yourself. (That's another reason to ride "2-up." ) I also checked tire pressure every morning, and had a foot pump to add air. This was essential for 2-up safety during our 2-month trips. Temperature and elevation played havoc with the pressure. (I admit that I didn't do as much when I was riding solo.) Ride Safe, y'all.

Just curious as to the mfr date on that tire. I always hear about some places selling older stock.
So far, I've been lucky with fairly current dates on my Avons.

Actually had he NOT caught that split/break/imperfection it would have been WAY fuglier. Good catch Grumpy. RIDE SAFE.

Hey Bill, That's real strange being we just talked about tires yesterday. So this is what was causing your front end to bounce up and down. Makes sense, since where that belt separated there had to be a high spot. Wow, I'm glad you found it now, and not between Tampa and Eureka Springs. Seems to me I hear a whole lot of bad stuff about Avon. ??? All you need to do now is to find a good mate for that Taxi tire to put on the front of your bike.

thanks for the reminder on checking tires and tire pressure. Haven't done it in over 2 months so better do it tomorrow just to be safe. My old and outdated dunlop OEM tires use to lose 1-2 psi per week but my newer Avon cobra's with new valve stems seem to not loose tire pressure hardly at all which is a good thing since I do not check tire pressure daily or even weekly.

I know that was common with the older style Avon Venoms. I had that happen twice with Venoms. First I've heard of the problem with a Cobra? I'll be checking Thanks Bill
