I'm thinking Ford!  Smiley

OK, I probably won't be buying a car for years since I just bought an Infiniti (used 2003) last Dec 31. I like to keep a car 10 yrs plus to get my moneys' worth.

But, if I were buying, I would look for something Ford has because they seem to have managed their business a lot better than GM or Chrysler. jmo  Cool

I'm happy in my gas sucking 97 137,000 mile 4x4 Tahoe. I've had it since 98 and 100,000 miles.

Would like a Madza 3 twin turbo pocket rocket. OR the Ford Escort RS if it ever makes it here from Europe OR the Jaguar XFR  Cheesy diesel if it ever makes it here from Europe.

Have a Honda Pilot and will never buy another American made vehicle until they figure out that quality is more important than anything else!!  I will pay more for quality, don't care who makes it!!

Not me.  Or Ford either.  I've owned them all...never again!  Been driving Nissan's since '88.  My current one is a '94 Maxima, bought it used in '96, got 150,000 miles and still handles and rides like new.  The exterior is starting to age.  When the time comes to buy another car, it will either be Nissan, Subaru or Honda.
My thoughts are the same as Chillerman's.

We just bought a new VW Diesel Jetta.  The Green Car of the Year.  Did not buy because of that though.  We get 36-44mpg highway.  Hauled a trailer with my Valkyrie in it from ND to Florida this Jan for some riding before the Daytona 500 race.  For the 4000+ mile round trip, car was brand new, we got 26mpg.  And that was at full interstate speed, not a slowed down for fuel economy figure.  I think that is pretty good.  Lots of power too.  Only shifted down on Montegale.  Smoking Joe will know about that!
We are pleased.
The 40+mpg is as good as, or better, than some of the hybreds out there.
I also have a 97 Dodge Diesel 3/4t, with 225,000 mostly farm miles on it.
A 98 Chevy high top Conversion van with 350 gas, pulls a 26' Airstream, and it has 265,000 miles on it, and the engine and tranny have never been opened up.  Have replaced a couple rear end brgs though! I think that is great on a 350, always with a heavy haul.

I have a 2005 Toyota Highlander, bought used, with 60k miles, I'm keeping it.  I also have a 1999 Mazda Miata, bought used, with 56k miles on it, I'm keeping it too.

Now, since the government practically owns both Chyrsler and GM, they will mandate what cars to make and how to make them. Production and management involved with these cars will be the done by  "Green" fanatics, lawyers (politicians), and bureaucrats.  The good old US of A is done as a manufacturing giant!

Example of this is the electric car right now.  The electric car is be being touted by these same people helped by a totally inept mass media.  Unfortunately, energy must be used to do work.  How are we going to generate the electrical energy necessary to "charge" these "green" car batteries?  Wind Power, solar power?  We won't be able to use that nasty dirty burning coal and nuclear power plants are out.

Maybe we better invest our money in Schwinn bicycles.  Oh, I forgot, Schwinn is out too, taken over by Who knows Who.

In my 81 years, I've never seen anything like this.  The Federal government now has more power than it did in WWII.

It fits into history well.  Historically, democracies only have lasted about 200 years, then the people have reached the "do it for me" stage and the govt gets too much power.  Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about telling us what to think ...

It's a story of a business, that takes billions of it's investors money, invested it and spent it incorrectly (and most probably fraudulantly), then it's investments turn to crap and now they don't have to repay the investors what they've lost.  The company is not General Motors....It is the United States Government.  They took our money, without asking us, invested billions in a failing business that ultimately went banckrupt.  And they didn't do it once....they've done it several times.  Why are we allowing this continue?  If your broker kept investing your after taxed money in failing businesses and you kept losing, you kick him to the curb.  Why are we letting the Government do it with our taxes?  The Government has proven over and over again that it is a terrible business entity.  They've historically have over spent on everything from hammers to bailouts.  Again, why do we continue to allow this?

I'll tell you why........because our 'representatives' couldn't care less what we think.  I have e-mailed all of my reps, asking them to please stop the bleeding.  The only thing I've gotten is a auto generated, generic e-mail reply.  Unfortunately I live in a very democratic state.

I'm sorry to say that too many citizens don't understand the consequences of what our President promised during his campaign.  He has created more of a feeling of entitlement for services that the government should never be providing in the first place (remember the old woman begging him for a car, and the burger flipper asking him for more benefits).

How is it possible to only tax 5% of the population to make up for the trillions spent?  I'll tell you........states and local principalities will received less money and services from the government, which in turn will raise property and school taxes (increasing rents and leases), sales tax, gas tax, fun tax (fishing license, motorcycle registration fees, etc.), business taxes and fees which will lead to higher prices (with higher sales taxes).   Brace yourselves for some awful inflation folks.

I have never heard talk of the end of our empire before.  Now, it's all I hear.

Exactly, Texas is already raising fishing license and boat registration fees, I'm sure the other fees will follow... Good thing I sold my hole in the water 3 yrs ago...

I agree 100% with chillerman.  my first car was a toyota corolla, put on 130k miles, went deer hunting with it, got myself a nice buck, sadly at the cost of the car, never ever had any problems with that car.  as for a chevy or chrysler, sorry, no can do....  own two fords now, 99windstar 01 f150, set for afew more years....

Left the country for a few days and the gov't takes over. Can't find good help these days. Course, while I was gone my investment grew very well. I keep my money where I can keep an eye on it, just above my belt line. Freedom of the Seas is not only the world's largest cruise liner but in my estimation has the largest buffet I've ever stood in line at.

http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/ships/ship/decks/deck/home.do?deckCode=11&shipCode=FR&shipProfile=1161&sailDate=1090607&hasNavigation=false

the Plaza Bar, Jade Restaurant and Windjammer are all one gigantic buffet. They put them in the back of the ship and the fitness center in the front. By the time you get though pigging out it is impossible to make your way forward in the wind. I ended up just giving up and laying out by the pool doing bikini inspections. I was forced into the job. The other fellow was blind and got all beat up.

If Chrysler would get off their arse and put a Hemi in the Dakota, I'd buy one tomorrow...........  Don't have a need for a full size Ram, and or enough room in my front garage for one either........

Would save me the trouble of trying to find a computer for the Hemi engine I have out of a Patrol car, that hopefully will be in my Dakota sometime this year.   Like a dumb assed fool, never even thought about the computer when I bought the engine........  When they made the Patrol Cars, they built the computers, after they sold a bunch to PD's, they quit making that computer box...

These computers are not available from Chrysler Corp anymore.  So, I have to find another wrecked Patrol car that they will sell the computer seperately.  The salvage yards are getting wise to the cmbination and will not seperate them.....  Right now I know of where 10 wrecked Patrol cars are in the US....  The one that my engine came out of was crushed, or squished into a small square block.  Supposedly computer was still in the car.......

I don't claim to know anything about it, but I overheard someone comment that the Hummer is already a p.o.s. ready made for Chinese distribution.  I reckon all it needs is a coat of lead paint and some carcinogenic seat covers and it will be ready for US soccer moms to ferry their one child around in.

I think you are right the foreign cars may be better, after all the Americans thought them how to build them.I bought my Caddy with 160,000 miles on it in 2001 and it only has two hundred and seventy five thousand on it now.I sure wish it would stop running so i could have an excuse to buy a new one.
