Valerie, a girl my oldest daughter's age lives up the street She is not a "bad" girl but not much ambition I guess is the best word to use Her mother always drives too fast down the block So she drives like her mother, too fast and inattentive. You can almost see what is coming This weekend she was on Chappaqua Road and made a left onto our street Unfortunately she failed to see a woman on a bicycle riding down Chappaqua Road hit her at a good clip and the woman died Monday night from her injuries She was a popular outgoing woman who died and is greatly mourned Valerie was driving with a suspended license and the car had no inspection It looks like the DA will probably file charges Its not just motorcycle that is invisible to our kids Two lives ruined I did not ride to work today, it wasnt the heat it was this story. I hope to ride again soon but just dont feel like it yet

That is a shame! It is hard to believe that someone who is operating illegally would not be EXTRA careful. And I am especially sorry for the innocent victim and her family.

She probably suffers from the "it won't happen to me" and "I won't get caught" syndromes,,,, I'm personally familiar with both present in my offspring

I used to suffer from that in my younger days, fortunately I lived through it. Unfortunately, sooner or later, it WILL happen to you.

Most often we teach by example and not by words. She learned by observation. Too bad.

This week, A Pontiac Grand Prix cut me off in a coffee shop parking lot, cut across the front of me, nearly took off the front of my van. Had to slam on the brakes to avoid being clipped. She continued on at like 60mph across to the drive-thru, and stopped. Well I was pissed, spun around, got out of the van, and unloaded every bad word that I knew at a person that I hadn't seen yet.
The She stuck her head out of the window,(how did I know without seeing that it was a young teen-to-twenty twit), and all she could think to say is 'You don't have to talk to me like that!'
She simply did not care that she'd almost caused an accident.
I hope that my loud indignant voice Rings in her head.
I'm the first to respect, and stand up to protect women, But, what that girl did was very wrong, something hard had to be said.

A guy called me a Ba$tard, I said in my case it's an accident of birth, in your case you're a self made man.

Exactly Oss.... sad avoidable and pointless....
A great loss to both families...friends, acquitances, etc.

Sorry to hear about the accident. My son about ten years ago almost had big trouble from an accident. He was driving down a dark street in San Bernardino ,Ca. and hit a black woman crossing the street an dam near killed her.She was wearing dark clothes on a dark street. He was confronted by a gang of blacks and was in big trouble until a big black man came to his rescue and got him out of there. He didn't get into trouble with the law but was lucky she didn't die.I had been in an auto accident when I was 20 yrs old and two people died, not a good thing.I'll be thinking of you and your family its going to be hard going for a while.Art

do what you can to support the family nearby and let them know if there is anything they need, to just ask.
When I was a kid age 12 or so, my best friend's mom on the same street we lived on died in an auto accident by her husband drunk driving at night and he was severely injured for months but lived. I felt so sorry for my best friend we kinda took him under our wing for a few months and fed him and took care of him letting him hang out at our house anytime he wanted. They didn't have to ask for help, it was a given we would help out.

My thoughts exactly! Sorry to hear of this, Evan. I know you and Bonnie are good, caring folks so I also know how this has affected you, especially if you are foregoing riding because of it. Peace and strength going out to all involved.
