New tire time,, so I have pullled the rear end apart to check and grease everything. The ujoints seem free and look good, but I can feel just a bit of play when I twist back and forth. Just a touch. Is this normal, or exceptable ? 2000 IS, 37500 miles.  Thanks!

If you have the u joint out and in your hands there should not be any play at all,any play would indicate the joint is failing, and should be replaced.

+1

If merely hand pressure can make it move at all, it is starting to fail..  May take a while, but I would replace!

As stated, if its out there should not be any play.. If its still installed then you'll feel some 'slack ' in the splines..

I just pulled mine and checked it. It had zero play. When I put it back in and went to put the boot back on I regretted ever pulling it. The boot is a B***H to get back on the swingarm.

Well, at least you didn't tear your boot.. The driveshaft refused to go back in on mine [ hadn't been a problem in the past] so I pulled the joint.. I tore the boot and am now waiting for one.. We get parts overnite,, I don't know why bike dealers can't do the same..

There are a lot of posts about how to put the boot back on.

"screw" it on, us alcohol as a lubricant, etc.
