My battery died today and left me stranded. At first I thought I had another hydrolock...relieved it wasn't that! Everything went dead and the clock, radio, fuel gauge all went haywire. Did a non running jump start and she fired right up. Has anyone put a battery from Wal-Mart in a Valk (assuming W-M has one to fit), and how would it compare to other brands? I'm trying not to spend more money that is necessary, but also don't want an inferior battery. Thanks in advance, Nathan

I got a USA Yuasa at the local dealer, and they charged it properly right before I picked it up. I think it cost about $85, I bet WM is cheaper, don't know if they'll charge them (right) first.
Generally Batteries will crank your bike right out of the box with no charging, just pour in the acid, but if you read the directions, you are supposed to properly charge them for maximum battery life...

Not that big a $$$ difference between a Yuasa and what ever Wally World is selling. My Honda dealer is just a couple miles away from Wally world and i went to the dealer. And a big yes on charge it properly BEFORE you install it. Your altenator and your battery will both live much longer. RIDE SAFE.

check out Oreilly's auto parts. They stock motorcycle batteries and they have 2 that fit the Valk. The more expensive one abt $65.00 when I bought mine a year or so ago was a rebranded DEKA battery which are great powerful batteries. I have used DEKA brand for the last 10 years in all kinds of heavy drawing bikes like wings, valks, etc. they were always excellent and usually unkillable. They are an AGM battery. If they still offer them check it out, best bang for the buck, $65 was my wholesale cost when I used to sell them about 7 years ago. They won't know its a DEKA, but when I checked after I bought one, it was for sure made by DEKA

Same here. 8 years + out of Yuasa. Not quite 2 years out of a walmart battery. So that's what I know about walmart batteries, just say No. $15 more for the better (Yuasa) battery for our Valks. Do Not buy a Yuasa battery from a discount store! Get it from a bike shop. There IS a difference. That's what I was told by a salesman at a Batteries Plus when I seen Yuasa M/C batteries on the shelf and asked about them. They are counterfeit. That's what I was told and I am sticking to it. If you shop around, you will see the silk screening on the batteries are different colors.....the ones at your bike shop and the ones sitting on the shelf at the discount store.

What about the Yuasa batteries being sold on Amazon? Can they be trusted to be selling the real deal? They had them at good price about a month ago.

I got one from Amazon late last year to have as a standby because the current yuasa is at least 6 years old. It came dry with an acid charge pack. Looks like the real deal to me. This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJX4BQ

This one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WJX4BQI've never heard of a problem with counterfeit Yuasa's before, but I know some are made in USA, some imported... The one in the Amazon link appears to be a USA one... -Mike

Just fer yuks went into wally world yesterday. I bought a small 12 volt compressor and a plug kit. In the auto dept the battery for our Valkyries is listed at $82.95 + tax. I got my new Yuasa at my Honda dealer for $83 something out the door tax included. And i was the one that added the acid pack that came with the battery. That battery was bone dry when i bought it. I am not sure how the wally world batterys are delivered but i believe they come wet. Hope this helps a little bit. RIDE SAFE.

I was thinking about going with a drycell battery kinda like the ones Aerostitch sells: http://www.aerostich.com/odyssey-drycell-motorcycle-batteries-1.html. Course after looking at the price I've changed my mind. Does anybody have experience with this type of battery?

I bought my '98 Tourer sept 1, 1999, it was a left over '98 with one mile on it. I replaced the OEM Yuasa battery on 5/11/09 . ALMOST 10 YEARS ! Replaced it with a batterys plus and it was dead last week. 3 years and two months/..ok I guess for std. batteries . I bought an OEM Yuasa at my local Honda dealer for $74.56 out the door tax included ! They had it charged and ready for installation when I picked it up. I am a VERY satisfied customer ! Nothing but Yuasa for me now. Also they are Made in USA, (Penn.) too .

I have run two cars with Interstate and a lawn tractor. All three ruined the wire connections. I would not install an interstate in my bike unless it was totally sealed.

I just bought a Motobat AGM battery to replace my stock one, then the next day saw the write ups on the lithium-ion ones, and wished I would have bought that instead.
With almost no power lost while stored up for the winter, means I don't need to have it on a charger while it's parked in my underground parking garage, and I don't need to remove the battery into the house to place the maintainer upon it.
The AGM should also last the 3-5 months I would have it on a charger, without needing to charge and still be able to start the bike in the spring.
