I am interested in a desmog on my valk. I have seen redeye's and the one from XF6 . They look totaly different from the pics provided. Can any one give advice on the best kit to use, or has any one used either and can tell me the benifits of that kit.

Take a look in shop talk or the archives.. Normands [ Quexpress] article is the best on the subject..

Use the search and find what to do.

It is very easy.

The reason it is very easy is because all you do is remove stuff. That's it!!!!

When you are finished the only thing left to do is plug up the hose barbs on the back of each intake runner.

The easy way is to reuse some of the hose you take off.

Cut it into six short pieces and plug one end with whatever you desire. Slip the other end over a barb and PRESTO, you have plugged one and there are only five left to do.

Note: if you retain the stock petcock, leave the hose that connects from the intake riser to the petcock. I'm talking about the vacuum hose. The gas line must remain also.

If you remove all the stuff, which I suggest to do, you will need to plug up a hole in the bottom of the air box. Very simple to glue a piece of plastic to the bottom. There are other ways to plug the hole also.

Not rocket science!  Good luck.

Ricky-D has got the right thought....TAKE IT ALL OFFR.  i has used XF-6 's kits many many times...my 2-bikes, and 12-others....14-total.   NOT ONE HAS HAD ANY TROUBLE.   His kits, for me anyway, are the best out there.

Yes, you don't really need a kit. Very inexpensive if you just follow these instructions.....  http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/desmog.htm
Did mine last week. Very easy.

+1 as Blaze said for me also, followed the Quexpress directions with the softplugs and I used the Redeye vacuum plugs on the intake risers. Worked great twice now and inexpensive.

I don't see a need to buy a kit.  Cut out a couple of block off plates from some sheet aluminum and install them between the engine and the tubing fittings.  The sheet aluminum, some exhaust rtv and vacuum plugs is all you need.  The rest is your time and energy.  Follow Quexpress' shoptalk article.  I took it and blew the pics up full size.  If you'd like a copy of it just shoot me an email at ppcshooter1 at msn dot com

Ditto on not needing a kit.... Freeze plugs and JB weld is all you need.... re-use the ends of the line on the bottom of the cylinder heads after you cut off the tubes and fill hole with JB weld... Freeze plugs in the holes on top... and either buy or make vaccum plugs for the intake nipples.... while your at it, as you already have it apart.. if you are using the stock petcock- replace the vacuum line.. just preventative maint.

I got the vacuum caps and new petcock line from Red Eye... was like 14 bucks or so I think.....

Freeze plugs you can order online, or find at a local auto store (o Reilly and Napa near me did not stock BTW)..... couple of bucks for 4..... just make sure you seat them properly.... using a socket to tap them down in works good..... don't just try to tap them flush with the top of the hole as they can pop out... I know from doing it on my bike.. LOL.....

The online guide in shop talk is all you need......

Question for those smarter than me....which is just about anybody breathing.  Does De-Smogging increase your gas mileage?

no, IF you had no leaks before. if you have vac leaks, it will make the bike run better and MAYBE improve mileage.

Increase gas mileage ??  Nope, nor performance either.. Not that you'd notice anyway..

But,, if done,, it pays to do it right..

be sure to use a socket a bit smaller than the plug otherwise as the plug flexes to fit in the hole it will grip the socket and your screwed.

The Redeye bright kit is a great mod. Gas mileage will not change.

$45 + shipping!!   Shocked  I think I spent less than $10 for everything when I put it together myself.
