I read kw's post about smelling fuel. Someone replied may be loose bands on the rubber

boot's. I figured I would check mine just for the hell of it. Bike has only 14300 mile's on

it. All upper and lower band's on all 6 carb's were about 4 of 5 full round's from being

close to snug. You could even move the band's. Tightened all 12 band's and run's no

different that I can tell. The carb's have never been off since the original owner purchased.

I guess they must have been stuck on there pretty good. Haven't got to take it for a ride

yet because of storm's. Maybe the small amount of popping under decel will go away now.

Guess i'll pay more attention to the small thing's I take for granite.

There's actually 3 bands per carb.  One above the carb, where the tubes from the air box enter the carb, and two below; one to fix the rubber boot to the carb and one to fix the boot to the intake tube.  You will have to remove the chrome cover over the fuel enricher slides to get to these.

I would also check the condition of the o-rings that are between the intake tubes and the head, especialy if you are seeing brown seepage around the base of the intake tubes.

Double check all the vac lines and/or plugs on the back of the intake tubes.

Make sure to drain the drool out of the clear-orange tube that hangs below the rear brake master cylinder.  Mine always smells gassy when this needs to be emptied.

Yea that's this weekend's project to check the upper clamp's and all fuel lines

and hose's. After a long ride to burn off the full tank of non ethanol gas.

I couldn't stand it. Just got through checking air box boot clamp's. unlike the other's they

were tight. All vacuum hoses are pliable with no cracks. Even the drool hose was dry.

Now if no rain saturday I will ride instead of working on it. Much more fun!   Smiley
