Hi All,  I picked up a Potenza G019 Grid  205 60 R 16 today for my 03 Standard and am ready to have it mounted.  I will be doing the nut cage removal for the clearence.  While I am at it I will of course do the rear end maintance, just a couple of questions.  I will be changing the 3 O rings and the final drive fluid.  Planning on using Bel Ray waterless grease on the splines.  I would also like to check the drive shaft what lube should I use on the end of the driveshaft?  Also anything else I should do? Thans,

Just check the thrust washer. If its thin and flimsy replace it. Other than that it sounds like you have it covered.

I just went Darkside a couple months ago.  I used the Bel-Ray waterproof on the rear splines and pretty much everywhere else but Valvoline Syn Power synthetic grease on the driveshaft splines as was suggested here by many.  You can get it at most auto parts sotres.  Also replaced the 3 O-rings and the thrust washer and changed the rear differential fluid.  Make sure when installing the rear hub/drive if removed you snug the 4 bolts, install the rear wheel and then fully tighten the hub/drive bolts.  I did the fender washer mod and the nut cage.  Might be better to do the fender washer mod first and see if you need to do the nut cage mod.  Only the fender mod may be necessary and is reversable whereas the nut cage isnt.

What is the washer modification?  I don't recall seeing that before.

Thanks to everyone for your replys.  I will be using the Bel Ray waterproof grease as well as doing the nutcage mod.  Is it difficult to get the drive shaft out and is it ok to use the Bel Ray on the other end of the driveshaft?
What are your thoughts on that?

Once you remove the rear hub, the drive shaft comes out with a small tug.  I used the Valvoline Syn Power synthetic grease on the driveshaft as recommeded by many others.  The Belray is good for most everything else.

Killroy just make sure to lift the swingarm to the normal travel position and it will slide back in. If you have the bike jacked up and the swingarm hanging down the angle is severe making it more difficult.

Roger,
Here is the washer mod, see link.

Thanks Steve.  I do not see how that increases the nut spacing.  Is the issue, that the bolts extend through the nuts?  Then a washer would increase the spacing between the end of the bolts.  Or you could grind/cut off the end of the bolt.
