As most are aware, I made contact through a Honda Shadow board with a licensed battlefield guide for Gettysburg.

Thad, has graciously volunteered to provide a guided battlefield tour, for free, for anyone who wants to participate. The tour will be approximately 2 hours or so.

We will meet Thad at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 13.

We will meet at:

PDQ Food Mart
1064 Chambersburg Rd. (Route30)
Gettysburg, PA

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1064+Chambersburg+Rd.+Gettysburg,+PA&sll=39.852698,-77.263241&sspn=0.121636,0.181446&ie=UTF8&ll=39.873912,-77.355423&spn=0.486392,0.725784&z=11&iwloc=A

Figured on this location because it is just west of the Gettysburg, in the area where Thad wants to start the tour... it is a store with fuel, restrooms, snacks, etc. so everyone can use those services if needed. There is also some sort of business (don't know what) next to the PDQ Mart with a large parking lot for temporary parking if the PDQ Mart can't hold us.

Thad advised that the PDQ Mart is no more than 25-30 miles from the hotels where we are staying. I figure we can roll out as a group or as individuals (or a combo of both); to each his own... just plan on being there by 10 am for the start of the tour.

If possible, Thad would like to have a rough count of who might be wanting to participate in the guided tour, so he can plan stops on the battlefield, etc. that can accommodate the group.

Post here if you think you might be coming on the tour...

Also... Thad may be joining us on Friday evening for the tire kick'in and bs'in, depending on weather, etc... he lives about an hour away.

I told him he is more than welcome to join us...

Wish we could be there.  The place holds significance for us.

Our great, great grandfather and (three greats) uncle toured Gettysburg battlefield as enlisted men with the 7th Virginia Infantry Reg (Kemper's Brigade, Pickett's Division) back in the summer of 1863.  They had no guide except the NCO's, but came away very impressed (and, mercifully, unhurt).  It is told in the family that our grandfather never really got over the experience.  He was 16 at the time.

We trudge on.
