The last two times I rode to work I noticed My Valk was not handling like it should. I checked air pressure when I got home. It was like 15 lbs. Did not look low. Did not feel low to the touch. Pulled wheel and checked tire with water for leaks. Did not see bubbles. Put 45 lbs. of air in tire and let set over night. Next morning still had 45 lbs. of air in it. I thought while I had wheel off I would polish up rim. I got to valve stem. Pushed it over a small amount and heard air coming out. Valve stem had a crack in it. Embarrassed

Well at least you're an honest dumb ass...  Grin  I'm a member of that club too. Look at this way, best lessons learned are those that don't hurt or kill us.

That is a reminder for everybody to check with a gauge since you really can't tell low pressure like you can with a car tire. (A car tire on a car that is) Thanks for the reminder.

I would say that the stock valve stems are the only real design flaw on the Valkyrie.  I had similar problems including a rapid deflation of the rear tire at highway speed.  I replaced them with metal stems and never had a problem since.

We just kinda went thru this.. I had a similar problem.. I think my stems were original.. Every time I took the wheels to the local Honda shop for tires I asked for stems and paid for them.. I don't think I got them though.. Both of my stems were cracked and I just replaced them.. These tires have about 5K on them so the stems certainly shouldn't have failed..

I'm in the process of mounting new tires (and rebuilding the final drive  Cry). The bike still has the original valve stems as far as I can tell. I ordered some 90 degree chrome metal ones from Jake Wilson. Better safe than sorry.

It also had those pressure indicator valve stem caps. I threw them away. The read 38 lbs. even when off the tire and in my hand.

Thats one of the reasons i like the custom M/C shop i go to for my tire work. I'm right there in the shop when my work is done and-big + the owner rides. RIDE SAFE.

I am still running stock style stems, but i change them every tire. You change them every tire on your car, why not on your bike?  That being said, im going to but metal ones on next time. But I had 5 of these ones so for these new tires, they just got new ones.  And yes, I do always have an extra brand new one in the saddle bags.

I think I'm on my original valve stems. I just put rubber grommets inside the holes on the stem guard and now the stem can't give in to centrifugal force. The rubber on the stems isn't cracked or dry. My tires hold air like they should.  Should be okay.
