Ok, so I've read about a lot of the noises that I'll be getting used to coming from my Valk, but after searching for a while, I haven't found any threads on this one, so I just want to make sure it's normal.  When I'm cruising at low RPM's (2000 or so) and I roll on the throttle pretty hard, the engine seems to make a "buzzing" sound that I can feel in the handles until she pulls herself into higher RPM's, at which time the "buzzing" goes away and it starts pulling harder and harder.  Anything to be concerned with??

My tourer will buzz a bit when the weather is just right....if I grab the windshield the buzzing stops. Humidity and heat and wind direction have to align...but I think mine is because of the windshield. My noise also was not a constantly occurring noise. Worth a grab.

it's definitely engine noise, not a rattle from anywhere else.  I'm not sure if "buzzing" is the right description.  It just seems to vibrate a lot more until the RPM's get higher, along with the different engine sound.  Not a whole lot of torque until the RPM's get up either, and as the vibration goes away the torque gets greater...   Undecided

I offer you the following.  The Valk has a fantastic torque curve in that it is about as flat as you will ever find.  It pulls strongly from 1000 RPM on up.

Having said that, at 2000 RPM and a wide open throttle, you are creating some problems.  The Valk has a fixed spark advance system.  The buzz you get is simply because for the level of power and throttle the engine would be better served if you dropped a gear and cranked the RPM.  The 'buzz' that you feel is the detonation of the gasoline, slight prematurely for the throttle level and RPM.  Or, to look at it another way, detonation begins before top dead center to insure a clean burn. If you are running too slow the burn is well under way before the piston starts moving down... hence the vibration.  Faster RPM insures that when the flame front is fully burning, the piston is already moving down.

thanks for the replies!  I'll check on that bolt.  Other than that, Eagle and F6gal, sounds like there's nothing wrong with the bike, but the driver...well, he may need some work?  I can handle that!

I find that many problems with my bikes are caused by that "loose nut behind the wheel" er ... bars.

Other noises will be heard far from home.  These same noises are not noticed until you're out on the road, far from home, especially if you're out on your own.  Then every squeak or rattle will be magnified in volume until you're convinced the bike will fall apart any minute.

This is known as "longwayfromhomeitis".
