Wanted to let you know about this company. Ride Direct have some of the best buys on motorcycle tires I've found. The Shinko 747 180/60R16 for $121.00 I went ahead and got two. Dunlap Elite 3 for $170.00. Check them out www.ridedirect.com. I have no ties with them just wanted to pass this along. cooldude

Are the 180/60 better than the 181/70's for the rear?

I had DLP match those prices for a set of Shinkos as spare.  I got the rear tire in a timely manner..... however, the front is still on BO for 2 months now.... supposedly due to Shinko "reworking" the front tire.   DLP does price match, but make sure of availability .....

I checked the Avon Cobra and my favorite place (www.swmototires.com) still beats their price...even with shipping.  Granted it is only by $3...but I have been buying from them for years...I know their service is TOP NOTCH!!  And...when you order two tires, it is free shipping...

I've heard good and bad about the Shinko tires. I put one on the rear of my Suzuki Bandit 1200S right before selling it and it was no match for the Michelin Pilot Power that it replaced. I bought 4 or 5 rears for the Bandit in the 31,000 miles I put on it and the Shinko took damn near three times the weight's to balance. Not saying it was a bad tire in fact it was decent for the money but could not compare in the twisties to the Pilot Powers.

The Shinko 747 180/60R16 for $121.00

I believe the size you want is 180/70R16.  The 180/60 is shorter, resulting in increased RPMs.   Cheesy
180/70R16 is $127.95

You can't do much about the length of your life, so focus on the width.

I think that you can have a good or bad tire with any brand.  I didn't have much mileage luck with the stocker Dunlops, tried Metzler and they handled good but wore out quickly, went to E3's when everyone was talking about them and the front one never felt quite right and both front and rear wore out at about 7k  (pressures were at 40psi), I went to Avon Venom and liked how it handled and just gave in to mileage being under 10 regardless of which MC tire I had.  Now the Venom is no longer being made and is replaced by the Cobra, which I hear good and bad about.  There wasn't much feedback on Shinkos so I thought I might try them..... still waiting for the front Shinko to arrive and more importantly the Venoms to wear out before I can do that tho.  Luckily, both my VTX and Valk take the same size tires, so I will have a spare set for whichever needs it.  But, I will probably get Cobras as the next spare set and give them a try as well.   If you personally have a bad experience with a tire you usually don't go back to it.... and the E3's are that tire for me, along with the stockers and Metzlers.  I have not tried Bridgestones but have not heard much good about them from others.....

All personal preference I believe.....

But as a side note.... I did notice that the Shinko's had at least 2/32's less tread (new) than Cobras (new).
