Why the clutch plate rivets fail

There are occasionally reported failures of the clutch plate & rivet assembly.
The failure can be attributed to poor operator handling most all the time.
What type of handling? Jack rabbit starts and poor downshifting habits. Remember, this is not a sport bike.
I think poor downshifting contributes to most failures. Remember, this is not a dirt bike.
As the miles increase, so does the chance of clutch plate rivet failure.
Keep up the bad habits and you will soon be having to put a new clutch plate (B) assembly.

How very true Ricky-D.
It is just like any vehicle, you abuse it continually and something will fail or break.
Don't ask how I know. Just trust me on what I said.

Guess I'm past due to replace it then. I might start buying the parts to have them ready. I ride mine hard and fast. Dozens of drag strip runs, loaded heavy, riding fast, etc. Only showing 133,000 now.

Is soft for rider comfort so when you try to ride hard you will get slippage. Second the rivits are brass so the wear down during said slippage. I pulled my clutch before I had any problems and had a local mechanic drill out the brass rivets and install stainless rivets. Also installed a Barnetts clutch spring. I clutch is stiffer to operate but my wife can ride it with no problems so it can't be that bad. I ride the carp out of my bike and haven't had any problems yet(knock on wood)so sometimes a ounce of prevention.....
