Route 20 in Neb

Plan on riding on rte 20 across Nebrasks toward the bad lands in South Dakota. Has anyone here
Ridden this route? Also plan on camping on the way across Nebraska. Any suggestions on some campgrounds? thanks

Just did that ride last month

20 across the bridge from Iowa and clear across to 83 north to Kadoka  started the day by Rj's place in DesMoines and ended the day at Mt Rushmore  It was only 12 hr day

Fudgie says take the road just south of 90 through the badlands and you can avoid some of the awesome winds on 90   I have been blown by winds but the wind on 90 was impressive, especially before and during and just after thunderstorms.

The east part of 20 once you are an hour into Nebraska is rolling hills, nice  then toward 83 more arid

It put extra miles and hours on the trip but I looked forward to and enjoyed the quiet pace of the two lane after 2 days of interstates

taken that route mnay times.  as for camping right now we are in the  100s.  also there is a fire around Ainsworth BUT I think it is closer to the South bouder right now. ONeill has a nice campground its right in town by the fair grounds   and I think its free has restrooms and showers.  Valentine has some but are costly but the city park is free did stay there but I think its gone to *ell since then lots of low life might want to stay away from it. Before Valentine  there is a town called Long Pine it has a state park its nice . Dont know which way you will go into SD but if you take 83 out of Valentine you will go throught Rosebud Indain reservation in about 80-100 miles you will hit the interstate by Murdo. That way isnt traveled alot so DONT break down not to many people around.  You can go to Chadron and take 385 into SD then go throught the hills I think that is a better way myself .Ther is camping also in Chadron.   Valentine to Chadron is a looooooooooohn   103 miles HOT AND DRY ALL THE WAY.  As far as filling up I always filled up when I got to  a half of tank.  hope this helps any other ? let me know....

I like US 20. Plan on hitting it on the west side this yr. O'Neil is a neat little town. I stayed at the Super 8 there. Take 281 out of O'Niel north to 18 in SD. Its at the state line. Then head west on it towards Winner SD. It turns into 44 and goes to Rapid. It goes thru the outside of the Badlands. Its a easy 75 mph road. Just watch all the little towns they are cop patroled. Esp Gregory and Colume. At Interior SD you can get gas and catch all the Badlands from there. From Winner to Rapid there is gas every 50-75 miles. I get gas in Winner, White River, and Interior, and then Rapid. Wind can be bad on 44 but not as much as I-90. The last 6 yrs it has only been super windy once. Bad enough it ripped my pants from my crotch to my knee. Gordon NE to O'neil can get a little boring but I liked it alot. I rode that distance without a helmet once, before I new it was law to have one on.

Not on the board to much,plan on leaving  next Sunday. Riding across 20 up through
the badlands and taking in all the attractions in the area. Thanks again
