I run 20-50 in my 99 Interstate year around, and I ride until the snow flyes and start in the spring when the shoulders of the road have thawed back to dirt. I have never had problems starting. I have a AGM battery, and keep seafoam in the tank for the whole winter. I put the trickle charger on about 2-3 weeks before I am going to start in the spring, and never start it in the dead of winter. I do not have a heated garage. cooldude

I use 10W-40 Mobil 1 here in Eau Claire. Where are you in our great state?

I use 10W-40 Mobil 1 here in Iowa year round.    Have used Mobil 1 for 11 years now.

SeaFoam, (full can) in the tank and run until it is in the carbs.   Then park it and most of the time it is covered up.

Usually I don't drain the carb bowls, but I was showing off my Viking pipes to a friend, and I had the gas shut off,  guess what, the bowls are empty now.   Pulled the screw on the bottom to drain each carb.    Only 1 had any fuel in it, not enough to shout about.

Son took it to bike night last week, and this week he took the Chevy Trike.   I told him to keep the Chevy till he had COLD A/C installed, and some doors to help hold that cold air in.

He kind of laughed and went on his way.

Tonight he sent me a link, where someone makes doors for this damn thing.  So tomorrow, I'm going to look into it.

If you want something a little lighter Mobil 1 is available in 5W40 as is Rotella T.  Both are available at Wally World.

You need to understand that the second number is the oil weight. The first number is for winter, and how it behaves in the cold.

I think our bikes ask for 40w(eight), and that is all you need. But if you are in high heat all the time a ticker oil isn't bad, like a 50w. Then when you are always in the cold, a thinner oil like 30w is also a plus.

But your engine runs at the same temp year round, so it only makes the biggest differance when you start a cold bike.

10w40 is all you need....no noticeable difference between NJ, Idaho, Colorado, or Wisconsin (where I've lived since buying my '99 Standard new in Denver).  I use Mobil 1 4T in all 3 of my bikes.
